As a therapist, I rely heavily on the power of the therapeutic relationship to assist in addressing difficult thoughts, emotions and experiences that lead to stress. I employ a very casual approach that focuses on building trust and creating a partnership where complex issues can be explored. I enjoy working with people to achieve increased life satisfaction, control over thoughts and feelings, and overall sense of understanding oneself.

My practice operates from the premise that people are doing the best they can under the circumstances and that everyone has strengths, coping skills, and resilience they are often unaware of. Life challenges happen to everyone. These challenges come in the form of our relationship with ourselves and others, our physical & mental health, and unexpected experiences that overwhelm our ability to cope. Sometimes the challenges are about how the past impacts the present. Being human means that living includes both joy and pain.

I know from my own experience how difficult it is to take the first step toward getting help. Once you've done that, you must face the difficult task of choosing a therapist. This is a very important and personal decision since the success of treatment is dependent on the client/therapist relationship. I believe the therapist/client relationship should be a collaborative one where we work as a team toward your goals.

I bring to my work a lifetime of experience with many different people in many different circumstances. My early life experience as a registered nurse enriches me as a psychologist and provides me with a unique perspective in navigating the path towards healing. I believe that the psyche holds within itself the power to heal, but our egos often get in the way. Through the struggles of life, we can lose contact with our own deep well of inner wisdom. My focus is on helping individuals develop the tools to re-connect with their true vital selves and restore balance.

You are capable of personal freedom and life fulfillment. I firmly believe in the human capacity to persevere even when moving through the most challenging life chapters. The client/therapist relationship is the single most important factor in reaching a positive therapeutic outcome according to extensive research studies. My relationship with clients is focused on compassion, respect, and on achieving real progress and lasting change. Clients tell me they appreciate my down-to-earth, respectful, and results oriented style. My goal at each session is for you to walk away with new insights, perspectives, and inspiration.

Reaching out to a therapist feels like the first time in a bathing suit after a long winter on the couch. Yes, it's scary, but it can also be transformative. When we are struggling in life, feeling stuck, hurt, confused, or alone, we all deserve a place to talk with someone who will not judge or shame us, but instead walk alongside us to create change, grow, heal and come into more fullness in ourselves and our relationships.

We are likely a good fit if you experience intrusive thoughts, are a perfectionist to a fault, spend hours on WebMD, live in fear that your child will get hurt, need constant reassurance that things will be OK, experience social anxiety, or spend more time in your own head than you would like to. Maybe you have started to avoid things that make you uncomfortable. The more we avoid, the smaller our world becomes, and the things that once brought us joy and fulfillment have vanished from most of our waking hours.

How can I find a therapist in 53201?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
