I believe that every person is unique and different. I strive to create a safe space where you will be treated with respect and kindness, feel validated, heard, and feel safe to be yourself regardless of age, gender, or race. I believe that counseling is a journey to better oneself at any point in life’s journey and not only during a crisis or through challenges. Whether it is shame, guilt, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, questioning your identity or trauma you are dealing with, know that change is possible.

One of the most important things for me is a clinician is that we are addressing the needs and goals of the client, that means that nobody else’s agenda is going to be prioritized. That also means that identifying those needs and goals will be the foundation of the work and what we go back to if we get lost and what we might change if movement is stunted. While there is not any prep work I would ask prior to a session, I would encourage any prospective clients to consider what they would like to accomplish in therapy. I offer intensive EMDR sessions (3-8 hours) and am currently able to schedule clients for intensive sessions.

It's normal to need help. If you're reading this, you already have the courage to make meaningful change in your life, and I would be honored to walk alongside you. While I have many tools to offer from my professional training, and I steep my practice in evidence-based and trauma-informed treatments like CBT, ACT, ERP, and others, I believe that in the context of a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe, understood, and supported, you have the power to heal and reach your full potential.

Many of the clients I work with feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that no longer feel helpful. They may be navigating anxiety, trauma, family transitions, identity shifts, or relationship stress. Often, they are managing big emotions while longing to feel understood, secure, and valued. At their core, they want steadiness, clarity, and a stronger sense of belonging.

Mend Counseling works with people who sense that something important has gone quiet in them. On the surface, life may look functional. Beneath it, there is often a feeling of being disconnected, guarded, or uncertain about where to go next. Some people have carried this for years without naming it. Others have tried to push through it. They come to Mend not just to feel better, but to understand themselves more honestly and to build a life that reflects who they actually are.

I’m Whitney, they/them, I'm trans, and I’m a therapist :)
I show up to therapy as a fellow human to get to know you and be part of your growth. My practice as a therapist has grown through the lens of Infant Mental Health which emphasizes the role of relationships and play in healing. Within a caring relationship we can find the strength to tell our story, feel our feelings, and connect to the parts of ourselves we’re afraid of. I particularly like working with queer people of all ages to help them love and care for the babies inside them.

What's the thing you keep coming back to — or that keeps coming back to you? For many of my clients it's a relationship that isn't working, a major life change, an identity that no longer fits or simply not knowing who they are anymore.
For a decade, I've had the privilege of supporting people through life's hardest and most meaningful chapters. My style is collaborative and tailored to you - because no two people, and no two paths to healing, look the same. My approach to therapy is eclectic but it is rooted in attachment and psychodynamic theories and EMDR. Understanding where you've been is often the key to where you're going.

Your child is bright, driven, and capable — but anxious underneath it all. Maybe they panic before competitions, shut down after mistakes, struggle with separation, or constantly compare their body to others. They want to feel confident, steady, and good enough without the pressure taking over. As a parent, you want them to succeed and feel happy, not overwhelmed by perfectionism or fear of failure.

The deepest goal of counseling is learning about yourself by teaching me about you. This idea can be daunting. You might be asking yourself, “What will I learn? Am I ready? What will this journey be like?” Sometimes starting the process is the hardest part! The beauty of counseling is that the journey doesn’t have to be taken alone. When you find a therapist that fits well, it can feel less like stumbling through a dark forest and more like forging a path of your own. No matter what brings you to therapy, feeling empowered, safe, and understood through the process can make all the difference in the world.
