Deciding on therapy is a step toward self-improvement. Deciding on a therapist is the next step in that pursuit. It is important to find a therapist that will provide an environment that allows you to share, collaborate, and ultimately, grow. I believe that therapy can help provide an additional perspective, which can bolster self-awareness and foster individual growth. My goal is for clients to feel safe and comfortable to explore areas of their lives they wish to better understand or improve.

The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination. As a clinician, it is my goal to help guide you in the right direction of your personal good life. While providing a secure, trustworthy environment for you, together we will work towards the process of building the best version of yourself. While I primarily use CBT in combination with Psychodynamic Theory, my approach is more importantly based on a foundation of empathy, compassion, and respect. I will work collaboratively with you to identify your unique needs and goals, and tailor my interventions to best suit your individual needs.

You’ve achieved a lot — but something still feels off. Maybe you’re questioning your career path, feeling stretched thin trying to be everything to everyone, or wondering how to pursue your goals without losing yourself in the process. Many of the women I work with are high-functioning, thoughtful, and capable, yet feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from the life they want to be living.

My therapy praxis is culturally sensitive, non-pathologizing, and trauma-informed, rooted in an awareness of the real impact of social constructs and normative discourses, around which systems of oppression are organized. My therapeutic approach is fundamentally person-centered and deeply informed by dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and existential philosophy, both of which emphasize our responsibility to create a meaningful life that honors our authentic selves through acceptance and change strategies. My approach is also informed by the narrative and solution-focused brief therapy traditions.

Accepting new clients for mid-day and early afternoon appointments. In a therapeutic setting, I strive to provide the space for clients to shed the external expectations of who they should be, and instead find the strength in who they truly are. For those who know exactly what they want to work through, to those who just sense that life feels uncomfortable, I am here to help explore life experiences and how they have shaped the behaviors and emotions in the person one has become. From there we can work together to clarify a brighter path forward.

A call for therapy is placed because some area of life is just not working. As a psychologist, my focus is on assisting each individual, couple or family in working towards and reaching the goals that brought them in. Together, we identify the nature of the challenges being faced and work together to get life back on track. I practice as a family psychologist, working with whomever comes into my office. Each one of us is part of a bigger circle and thus the work also focuses on those with whom the person works or lives, as relevant.

I chose this profession from a profound desire to help and a strong belief that we all deserve help and healing. Deciding to seek help is the first brave step towards wellness. Taking positive strides and making healthy changes is what I am here to help with. Developing a warm, trusting, and calm environment is what I strive to provide each and every session. The most important aspect of therapy is developing a healthy therapeutic relationship where you feel safe to share your feelings, thoughts and experiences.

I have a general practice, working with a broad variety of persons and problems, middle school through elderly. I do about half my work with kids from middle school through finding your way after college. I do a lot of work with persons with depression, anxiety, and serious mental illnesses. I work thoughtfully and respectfully with persons of all sorts of religious backgrounds and sexualities, although myself I am traditional. I tailor my approach to your goals and needs; however, I often try to look at our mutual views about our therapeutic relationship as a way to foster change.

I believe people can start over: at any age, in any place, after any loss or transformation. As an immigrant, an artist, and a writer, I’ve walked through deep shifts in identity and belonging. Therapy, to me, is about reconnecting with who you truly are while creating room for who you're becoming. If you’re someone who thinks deeply, feels intensely, or finds healing through creativity, you’ll likely feel at home here. I also make space for the personal ways you connect with the world through nature, energy, and the wisdom already within you.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
