Life can be overwhelming; from the chaotic daily stressors, to life changing transitions. Are you wondering how to tackle these challenging situations? Do you know something is "off" with your energy, but not quite sure what it is or how to access it?

Overwhelmed, stressed and at a loss for what to do next. Hoping to find calm, a sense of control and room to breathe. Today’s daily life is, more often than not, exhausting; whether you’re a child, young adult or parent or navigating retirement.

You dream of a calmer and fulfilled journey through your life. One where you can breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the benefits of your hard work. Taking a little extra time in the morning to enjoy a cup of coffee on your porch or seizing a special moment of your day. However, you find a contradiction in what your soul desires and in your actual life. You find yourself feeling busy, you barely have time to look up and often feel isolated and alone, as if no one quite understands your inner feelings of: anxiety, depression, sadness, trauma, relationship or self esteem concerns. When will your moment come to feel understood?

The Michigan Progressive Health team is passionate about helping all of our patients alleviate their pain and suffering. At MPH, Megan Oxley, M.D. has built a ketamine practice on two important principles: to provide medical relief for those struggling with problems that can often be improved with a ketamine therapy regimen and, to provide superior medical attention in a safe, clean and well-appointed facility. We want the MPH clinic to feel more like home and less like a doctor’s office.

In-person and telehealth available!-Life can feel like a lot at times. We’re constantly juggling responsibilities, relationships, expectations, and somewhere along the way, it’s easy to lose track of ourselves. That’s why I see therapy more than anything as a space where you finally get to focus on you. No pressure to perform. Just space to be yourself, and figure things out. I'm here to walk alongside you as you navigate whatever’s coming up—whether it’s anxiety, depression, relationship struggles just feeling off and not quite knowing why. Every person is different, and I tailor my approach to fit you, not the other way around.

My goal is to assist you in recognizing your inherent strengths that have been developed as a result of your unique experiences. Everyone comes to this moment with their own set of beliefs, values, morals, and expectations. You are stronger than you think. You are more capable than you think. Oftentimes individuals, couples, and families may not recognize their own resilience and their ability to break toxic cycles that may exist within relationships. Sometimes experiences can overwhelm us, and make us feel that we don’t know the way forward. The process of therapy is turning those overwhelming feelings into a road map.

I believe therapy works best when there is a real human connection between therapist and client. We are shaped by relationships, hurt through relationships, and ultimately healed through relationships. That process begins here. Rather than remaining distant or neutral, I show up authentically in our work together. I share my reactions, insights, and perspectives when they feel helpful and supportive to your growth.

I work with thoughtful, driven adults who feel stuck between who they are and the life they’re expected to live. Many of my clients have built lives that look fulfilling from the outside, yet internally find themselves dealing with anxiety, CPTSD, burnout, relational trauma, ADHD, or relationship difficulties. Having worked as a musician, I specialize in supporting creative professionals and others whose careers don’t allow for full expression of their creativity and gifts leaving them feeling constrained or inauthentic. My practice is inclusive of the full spectrum of neurodiversity and is queer-allied and body-positive.

Life can be messy! Whether it's a looming deadline, a difficult conversation with someone you care about, or simply the daily stress of juggling everything, saying you're overwhelmed can feel like a huge understatement. My primary goal as a therapist is to create a warm, welcoming space where you can show up just as you are - messy moments included. Through authentic connection and a conversational approach (which, yes, sometimes includes laughter), we’ll work together to manage the complexities of daily life and improve the relationships that matter most, starting with the one you have with yourself.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
