You may feel anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected, and the idea of getting to a therapy office might feel like one more thing you can’t manage. Many of my clients are high-functioning adults who’ve spent years caring for others, navigating transitions, or feeling lost beneath responsibilities. Others struggle with anxiety that makes leaving home difficult or find they open up more easily in familiar environments. My ideal client wants calm, clarity, and a therapist who meets them with warmth, steadiness, and real-life support where they need it most.

I left my career in the finance industry to pursue my passion for healing and health in 2013. I have a warm and caring personality and am experienced working with individuals, couples, families and children. I use a variety of treatment modalities, but my approach is very client-centered. I often utilize a cognitive behavioral approach to counseling, helping clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors and learning which they can control.

I have been involved in therapy for almost thirty years working in areas of criminal justice, social services, mental health, welfare and addiction treatment. I have enjoyed working with all age clients-each having different challenges. Although I enjoy working with all clients, areas of specialization: Adolescent behavioral issues, gambling and addictive behaviors, family and marriage counseling. I encourge clients to work on two main objectives: Self Empowerment and Acceptance of who they choose to be. I do not judge a person because of their concerns, I try to help them learn the tools to avoid future problems.

Welcome. I specialize in working with clients who may have ADHD. I enjoy working with neurodiverse kids, teens, and adults. Neurodiverse clients often struggle with symptoms of anxiety and depression while feeling like they are crumbling under societal expectations and self-doubt—often without addressing the deeper causes. Long-term exposure can lead to trauma and a sense of feeling “stuck.”

Maybe past trauma is impacting your day-to-day, maybe you’re in a difficult season, or maybe you're battling the feeling of not being enough in some way. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected—from yourself, your body, or others—therapy is place to slow down and get curious about what’s really going on inside. In our work together, we’ll explore how your past and present experiences shape the way you move through the world—and we’ll do so at a pace that feels safe and grounded. My goal is to help you reconnect with your needs, values, and inner wisdom, and bring healing so you can live the good life you want to live.

Hi! My name is Nichole Hutchinson and I became a mental health counselor in order to provide a supportive and inclusive environment to adolescents and adults, where freedom of expression, speaking your own truth, and the ability to be heard can all happen. What brings you here today? No matter the reason, you are in the right place. Are you feeling underwhelmed, overworked, stressed out, burdened, unhappy, or challenged in some way? These are all common feelings and yet they can make you feel out of control.

Are you and your partner stuck in painful emotional cycles that leave you both feeling sad, anxious, overwhelmed or alone? For example, do you or your partner feel defensive when one of you voices your concerns? Does it feel like your partner doesn't care about your feelings, needs or longings? Is it difficult to work together toward common goals or do you fight over the smallest of details? Even in the most loving relationships, these negative cycles can show up when partners have different ways of responding to emotional stressors within the relationship or from external sources such as jobs, family, illness or friends.

This crazy journey called life can leave us feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, searching for answers we can’t seem to find, or dealt a blow from which it feels impossible to recover. Counseling could aid you in breaking life down into more manageable pieces, inject a fresh perspective inspiring hope, guide you to finding the answers you are looking for, or teach you how to pick yourself up after a particularly brutal blow. Whatever the challenges you face, know there is hope and you are worth fighting for. I want you to know you are not broken, and you don’t need fixing; instead counseling can guide, teach, and revitalize your life.

You’ve been holding it together for everyone else, but you’re exhausted. You may be smiling on the outside, but feel alone. I help people struggling with anxiety, depression, and relationship stress heal old patterns and feel like themselves again — lighter, calmer, and more confident. I’ve spent 25 years working in the mental health field. I know firsthand that change is possible — not because I read it in a textbook, but because I’ve done it myself. Therapy with me is warm, honest, and practical. We’ll laugh when it’s right, and sit with the hard stuff when it is needed, and you will learn new skills you can apply in real life.

The counseling process can and should involve exploring goals and needs. It is ok to have an idea of how counseling can help, and it's okay to let me help you explore that topic. Not everyone knows what they want or why. And, sometimes, what we want and need changes. The ideal client is willing to show up and do some exploring.

It is challenging, vulnerable work to open up to a stranger, and I do not take that lightly. I understand and appreciate the courage it takes to select and trust someone to help you, and that's why I put the relationship first. The most important thing about coaching is that you feel comfortable with your coach. I strive to bring forward my genuine self and to provide you with honesty, security and integrity throughout your process. Whatever you bring to the table, I want to partner with you to tackle your concerns together.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
