Do the same problems and situations keep cropping up in your life, no matter how hard you try to not go there again? The Hakomi method is highly effective in identifying often deeply-buried beliefs, feelings and experiences that keep bringing you back to the same old places. Once you are in contact with those beliefs and feelings, they can be changed or welcomed as you wish. "Using techniques that include gentleness and mindfulness, Hakomi therapy allows us to make new choices around old material, and to make those choices permanent".

As many as 1-in-3 adults in the United States have suffered from Religious Trauma at some point in their life. This can look like deep or chronic shame about being a sinner, chronic fear or anxiety around salvation, rapture, or Hell, or feelings of being unlovable or bad. I have lived experience deconstructing my own religious beliefs, and I focus my practice on supporting others who have experienced religious trauma. I am a trauma informed and certified Brainspotting therapist who can help you to deconstruct from religious teachings that may have harmed you and begin to create healthy ways to establish boundaries.

Your journey into parenthood and balancing a life outside of parenthood brought unexpected challenges, changing your world in profound ways. Perhaps the joy of expecting or the arrival of a new baby, has left you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and uncertain. These transitions can be as disorienting as they are beautiful, touching deep emotions, possibly reawakening past traumas or intensifying fears about the future. You're navigating a complex mix of emotions—joy, fear, anticipation, anxiety and grief. You need someone who can guide you through this new era. You're seeking a path to feel balanced, connected, and whole again.

I am passionate about reducing suffering. My expertise is in helping women and teens struggling with depression, anxiety, feeling stressed/overwhelmed or "not good enough". I help women on their paths to parenting whether they are dealing with infertility, experiencing challenges in pregnancy/perinatal/postpartum, or needing support in parenting their children or balancing the demands of their lives. I have 13 years of clinical experience and 10 of those years have been spent treating children/teens with depression and anxiety (and often self-harming behaviors) in an intensive outpatient setting. I understand the stresses of teens and connect well with them.

Effective counseling is all about connection. We seek to be understood, to be known, and to share life with someone else. Counseling provides a safe place to try out ways of connecting with another person, with ourselves, and with our world without fear of hurting others or our own reputation in the process. The majority of my clients come to me wanting to work on navigating life with differences of gender identity and sexuality; taking time to share in a safe place is vitally important.

Feeling the weight of the past holding you back? Looking for new and more helpful ways to heal and move forward? Wanting to lean into the healthiest version of yourself? Though it is not talked about enough, these types of challenges are not uncommon in this human experience and we all struggle, at points in our lives, with how we react and respond to different situations because of our experiences we've had that affect our thoughts, feelings and emotions. I believe that you are capable of breaking away from what no longer serves you and finding your way towards a more intentional and fulfilling life.

My passion is working with couples who want help creating the relationship they have always wanted, whether in a premarital format, or through direct conflict resolution and active reconnection steps. For anyone stuck in an unproductive loop in relationships or life generally, I love helping build new patterns and habits that align with long-term goals. When working with couples in high-conflict dynamics, I create an environment where everyone is given the chance to speak and be fully heard with respect. Most couples I work with discover they agree on far more than they expect.

For the Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and Empath, the world can be an overwhelming place. These individuals are “super sensing” - their central nervous systems process sensory and energetic information more deeply than the average person. Years of taking in this level of input without awareness and compassion can lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression, patterns of codependency, and unresolved trauma. Your heightened capacity to absorb information does not have to hinder your personal growth & well-being. I specialize in partnering with HSP’s & Empaths as they process traumatic experiences and create positive change in their lives.

Many of us want to be more grounded, live life more fully and also experience deeper connection in our relationships. We can find ourselves disoriented, uncertain, and even overwhelmed as we experience transitions, stress, and events that affect us & our closest relationships. Sometimes it can be hard to even articulate exactly what's wrong. I work well with couples and individuals who find themselves in these places. I believe therapy can provide people a safe, authentic space where you are valued & where you are seen for more than just the issues that bring you into counseling.

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
