Much of the work I do involves the use of evidence-based approaches including EMDR, but I am eclectic and utilize a variety of therapies based on the patient's needs. In addition to helping patients who are struggling with anxiety, panic symptoms, depression, grief and loss, PTSD and sexual abuse issues, I have a strong chemical dependency background. I recognize the decision to seek help can be a difficult one, and that choosing the right therapist can sometimes be even harder. If you are ready to take that next step, I encourage you to give me a call.

Offering both telehealth & in-person counseling at this time. After ten years working in the mental health and addictions treatment field, I decided to open my own practice for a very specific reason. I have seen and experienced first-hand that the most significant relationship in one’s life is the relationship with one’s self. This relationship is oftentimes short-changed and harmed before it even has a chance to begin flourishing, based on circumstances, events, and environments. And, rather than focus solely on symptom management, I have seen the irrefutable benefit of digging in and focusing on what lies beneath the surface.

My ideal client is a child or adolescent who has recently faced a loss or trauma and is having difficulties finding a new sense of normal. This client may or may not recognize that what they’ve gone through has impacted them, but they may realize that something is off in their world. They may want to learn how to cope with this new reality that they are facing. This client may have a variety of different reasons for wanting to learn how to get a handle on this experience, but it may often boil down to wanting to feel okay again.

My clients' past trauma gets in the way of the life they want in so many ways. They aren’t the kind of person they want to be. They feel like they’re failing as a partner, friend, sister, daughter. And their confidence at work is tanking. Before they came to see me, they felt guilty for not being happy and wanting more intimate relationships. They worried about blaming their past and others for the current issues with intimate relationships. And they were pretty certain it would be too overwhelming to share with a stranger what happened to them and what has been going on.

It is my belief that the counseling process must be tailored to meet the individual’s needs. You may want to address the ways past experiences have shaped your life, learn skills to help cope with the issues you are currently facing, find a deeper meaning in your life, or move towards healing. Whatever your goals, we will work together to determine a way forward that will be most effective for you.

Let's be real - life is hard and sticky and absolutely devastating at times. The world shakes and all the sudden our lives don't look like they used to or the way we want them to. Maybe we need someone to help us untangle our thoughts, figure out what we are feeling, maybe relearn our identity. That might be where someone like me steps in.

My counseling approach is toward wellness and healing. People face many life challenges that may result in a state of brokenness, fatigue, and burnout. I will partner with you to find answers to hard questions, and solutions to your temporary and persistent life’s problems. I believe that counseling is a journey in which an equipped and experienced counselor walks alongside the person who seeks understanding and growth in certain life issues and behaviors. Counseling is never meant to be a passive experience - something being administered to you - but rather an active encounter that leads to growth and change for the better

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
