I love using play therapy to help kids and their families. Play is the free expression of what is in a child's heart. Young children who struggle academically and socially may be lagging in the skills they need to succeed. Others who have experienced loss or trauma may find it difficult to verbally engage with a caring adult to work through their pain. It is within the safety of a therapeutic child-centered playroom that these children use their natural language of play to heal, build coping skills, and learn to make sense of their world. It is my honor to facilitate this process at Trettin Play Therapy Services.

I'm a doctoral-level therapist based in Toledo with more than seven years of experience. I've dedicated my practice to finding individualized care that meets each client where they are. This is an approach that acknowledges the profound impact of childhood experiences, past trauma, and unhealthy relationships on our current well-being. A native of India, I attended graduate school for counseling in Mississippi and Ohio and have deep experience across several areas of clinical practice. I bring a multicultural lens to my work, providing a deep respect for the varied identities, backgrounds and lived experiences of my clients.

I provide therapy for individuals, couples, and multi-partner relationships seeking support with relationships, communication, sex, intimacy, and connection. Many clients come to my practice because they want a safe, affirming space to explore topics that are often difficult to talk about. For some, I’m the first therapist they’ve felt comfortable discussing sex, desire, and relational concerns with.

People pursue counseling and therapy for a variety of reasons. Some enter into therapy to address major life changes or to seek help in managing mental health conditions, while others may need assistance with everyday life occurrences. No matter the situation, circumstance, and/or stressor(s) that you may be facing, I will work with and counsel you right where you are. You will find that the various evidenced-based approaches I provide exemplify nothing less than a safe haven for precisely that kind of free-ranging release where you can express yourself and be unapologetically you.

“Courage starts with showing up, and letting ourselves be seen.” -Brene Brown. I believe the core of humanity and relationships is letting our whole selves be seen: the good, the bad and the ugly. That courage does not always come naturally. I hope to help others find that courage in my therapeutic practice. I believe you already possess the capacity for healing, and by working together we will find the path to restore that belief in yourself. My goal as a therapist is to find an approach that works for each individual to ensure their personal needs, interests and therapeutic goals are being met.

Do you feel that one of the most important aspects of counseling is relationship building and establishing trust? I like to meet my clients where they are and help them to grow from there. Counseling is a safe place to be vulnerable, express feelings of fear or sadness, and a place to plant seeds of hope and develop self-efficacy and peace. Counseling can involve a great deal of self-reflection and I also like to work from a goal and solution focused approach. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker Supervisor with a master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University.

I have been working in the behavior health field for 40 years as a therapist as well as a clinical supervisor and administrator in small and large behavioral health organizations. I was born in Kentucky and have lived in Cincinnati area for over 30 years. I went to graduate school in West Virginia and am fully licensed in Ohio. After my years of administration, I found myself increasingly drawn back to doing more work directly with people, particularly those struggling with depression, anxiety and a relief from their day to day struggles.

My approach is individualized and designed for you to achieve your goals in the shortest possible time, while building the foundation for lasting improvements. In our first meeting together, we'll talk about what brings you to counseling, what you want to accomplish, and barriers you’ve had with what you have already tried. I understand that in the first meeting you will be deciding if you think I can help you. So, as I get to know you and gather information, I make a point to be present, share my initial thoughts and pose questions in order for you to build that confidence.

Many of the people I work with are used to being the support for everyone else. Therapists, helpers, and highly self-aware individuals often come to therapy feeling stretched thin, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves. You may understand your patterns and still feel stuck. I also work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and neurodivergence, including those exploring late-diagnosed ADHD or autism.

Hi, I'm Kristyn and I am a licensed professional clinical counselor in the state of Ohio. I am co-owner of Growing in Grace Counseling, LLC. First off I want to say that you are courageous because it takes a lot to seek out help when you need it most. At this moment, your life may feel overwhelming and anxious thoughts will not rest and peace may seem out of reach. You may feel burdened with guilt and shame where there may be no hope within sight. I would love to come along side you and help you find that peace, to find hope, and restore balance back into your daily routines.
