I believe in the healing and transformational power of therapy. My work of 40+ years with individuals, couples and families has shown that we have the ability to change ourselves, our relationships, our families, and even the world, when we commit to learning and growing. I respect each individual's beliefs without judgment. I have a background in spirituality and offer that as a resource for healing, if wanted and when appropriate. I believe that relationships are challenging and that we can learn skills to improve communication, intimacy, respect and trust with those we love.

Many experiences in life can motivate us to look for support―a difficult current or past relationship, overwhelming stress, unprocessed trauma, or maybe just a sense of being stuck. You aren't alone. My hope is that you find in me a nonjudgmental, caring presence to listen and help you process whatever pain or disconnection you might be experiencing. My aim is to guide you toward the wholeness you seek.

Sometimes, life can feel overwhelming and a way to change the things you don't like may seem impossible. We all have times of challenge. Because even when hope feels small, it is there waiting there waiting to be discovered. I enjoy getting to know my clients and seeing them succeed. I have been working as an LCSW for over 10 years and love what I do. I obtained my Masters in Social Work through University of Tennessee. I have practiced with teenagers and adults to identify and learn ways to better manage emotions allowing more control over symptoms of mood disorders, anxiety, and anger.

Are you having difficulties with a low mood? Are you having issues with racing thoughts? Is it seemingly impossible for you to turn your mind off? Anxiety and depression are like 2 bad roommates that don't respect your boundaries. Let's put a plan together to kick these two imposters out! No, we cannot change our past, but we can place a new frame around it. Let's change the old narrative of yourself, and write a new story! I understand that you have done the best that you can, and that is okay.

My ideal client has come to the painful awareness that something is off. Life has been derailed by a host of intruders like grief, anxiety, depression, addiction, family drama, relational conflict, heartbreak, abuse, and trauma. What once worked just to survive no longer works. They've come to the awareness that they must choose 1) the hard path of change, or 2) the even more difficult path of doing the same thing again and again while expecting different results. My clients are willing to bring the pain of their past into the work of the present so that they might live in hope of their future.

I would love to explore and assist you in aligning your attractor field with your authentic self. You can shift your daily experiences by uncovering what your deepest desire is attracting and manifesting in life. Are you ready to consciously meet your needs rather than allowing hidden imprints and beliefs to create repeating loops. Many symptoms of mental health including past trauma, addictive tendencies, and relationship issues can create a loss of hope and loss of excitement about life. I will assist you in clearing a path for your next chapter in the book of life.

Life can be hard at times for all of us, and our challenges can seem even more overwhelming if we face them alone. Having a caring therapist can make all the difference in the world. I work with individuals, from childhood through adulthood, and I believe that all people have the wisdom and strength they need to succeed-sometimes they just need help finding it. I prioritize empathy and compassion in my work and use a trauma-informed approach. I lean on CBT principles and have also found clinical applications of EFT to be helpful with self-regulation and trauma. With children and teens, I make use of play therapy techniques.

"I'm proud of you." It may have been a while since someone has said that to you. But if you've been carrying a lot on your own, continuing to show up each day takes strength. Many of the people I work with are used to being "the strong one. They often feel misunderstood or emotionally overlooked in their relationships and in the world around them. Some may be navigating anxiety, depression, or life stress, but beneath those struggles is a deeper desire: to feel seen, understood, and accepted for who they truly are.

I work with clients that present with a variety of issues - depression, anxiety, addiction - often stemming from underlying issues with codependency, low self-worth, family of origin issues, and unresolved trauma. I see individuals, couples, and adolescents. If appropriate, I like working with clients in a group setting where peer support and identification with others help clients feel less misunderstood, alone or different.

I believe we all long to flourish. When we meet, we will explore what flourishing means to you, what your goals are, and what's standing in your way. I look first at your strengths—what's working for you now— and why you think you are struggling in certain areas. We will then collaborate on how to reach your goals. As a Christian I know we have a unique relationship with God, and when asked I integrate spirituality. Because I have a lifetime of lived experiences I am compassionate, nonjudgmental, and empathetic. I draw from these experiences, and it informs my counseling. Helping others to flourish has always been part of who I am.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
