Accepting Autistic and/or ADHD clients only. Adults and older teens. New therapy clients are scheduling out a few weeks right now, but I have immediate openings for neurodivergent coaching clients at thedivergentbrain.com. I am neurodivergent and I love neurodivergent people. Neurodivergent means "a brain that diverges from the norm," I use it to refer collectively to Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia – brains that are not ill or broken, but fundamentally wired differently than the average person. If this describes you, then you've come to the right place.

Life is hard. It can be confusing and full of pain and loss, but also growth and joy. Our pasts too often crowd into our present, and our fear of the future too often holds us hostage. Sometimes we're just at a loss, asking questions like "Who am I anyway," "Why does this keep happening" or "Why did that happen to me." Or maybe you are facing an inner conflict between parts of yourself, which is getting in the way of how you want to live your life. These and many other things are the sorts of things that often bring someone to counseling, and they are the things that many of my clients face. I'm here to help with that.

Being human is hard. It’s messy. And it can feel totally overwhelming at times. However, when we learn to give voice to these inner experiences, they start to become more manageable. We begin to realize the feelings and symptoms we experience aren’t random, they’re telling us something. As your therapist, I can help you learn how to better connect with, understand, and express painful emotions, while also providing tools to help you cope. Through it all, I will offer you compassion, warmth, empathy - maybe even a well timed curse word if necessary. I’ll bring my whole authentic self to the therapy room and invite you to do the same.

I consider it one of my greatest privileges to partner with people as they navigate their stories. I know from personal experience that therapy can be invaluable when processing change, emotional turmoil, and questions about self. While I often utilize concepts from CBT, DBT, and other theories, I most often draw from Narrative Theory and take a Person-Centered approach in my work with clients. I am trained in TF-CBT and EMDR, and my professional history includes over four years working exclusively with survivors of sexual trauma.

Have you reached a point in your life where you've done all the "right" things, but things just don't feel quite "right?" Our brains are doing the best they can to help us have the lives we want, but that sweet little organ is often misguided. Our brains are wired to help us survive what we've been through, but what happens when it's over? The brain doesn't just snap back to where it was before, or sigh and say, "Ahhhh, now we can relax!" Your brain needs help to rewire and heal. When your brain heals from the trauma you've been through, you're able to come home to yourself and access all that you are and all that you can be.

At one point or another, we all feel worn down, disconnected, or just "stuck." Maybe it's a stressful situation or an ongoing problem that won't seem to resolve, or perhaps it's hard to identify a reason at all. In these moments, my goal is to join others where they are and work together toward peace and positive change. I hope to provide a place where you can re-examine how you've come to see yourself and others, learn skills for identifying and managing challenges you're facing, and open up to re-engage in the connections most important to you.

How can I find a therapist in 37917?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
