Maya Angelou once said, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” Changes, challenges and struggles are complex and take us out of our comfort zone. Too often we find it difficult to slow down, learn from and appreciate the journey of healing. My goal is for clients to help address those challenges, complexities and struggles whether it involves concerns with attachment, behavior regulation, family dynamics, infertility, parenting, racial identity or trauma as well as understand the meaning behind the behavior.

My client base is focused on the addict and those close to them who have been affected by the addict's behaviors. Clients entering the practice have found themselves caught in a destructive cycle of behaviors; often wishing they could stop, but find themselves continuing the behaviors. Then, there are those the addict has betrayed and hurt deeply through his or her behaviors. The affect of the behaviors have often left the loved ones traumatized and in need of support through the healing process.

Do you feel stuck? My passion is using a holistic, experiential approach with adults who feel stuck, whether stuck in depression, anxiety, negative thinking or in a transitional stage of life. I use multiple modalities to identify the root causes of what is no longer working for you and help integrate new ways of thinking and being so that you can live your life as your highest self. Therapy should not last forever, so I work with clients in 3 month increments and have clear goals set. If you're ready to do the work, let me help you live your life to the fullest!

Many people walk through life saying, “I’m fine. Everything is fine.” But often, fine is just a placeholder, a way to avoid feelings that feel too big, too uncomfortable, too overwhelming. FINE stands for Feelings In Need of Expression.
My work centers on helping clients safely express the emotions they’ve been holding in. One of my strengths is actively listening and creating a grounded, compassionate space where those unspoken feelings can finally be felt safely. We’re taught to suppress our emotions and push through, but those feelings don’t disappear. They settle in the body, leak out in our interactions, and like volcano erupt.

Accepting new clients. After experiencing my own trials in life, I learned just how beneficial counseling can be to supporting us through life’s difficulties. It is my goal to provide that healthy support to others who are walking hard paths. For me, the therapeutic relationship involves a mutual learning from one another, as well as addressing a person’s needs from all arenas, including emotional, physical, and spiritual. An understanding of attachment helps me encourage clients to find clarity in their lives and healthier relationships with self and others. I am grateful for the honor of being a safe space for clients.

I decided to become a therapist because of my own struggles with mental health issues especially as an adolescent and young adult. I want to take these awful experiences and use them as motivation to help others. If you are an over thinker, I believe I can help. I work with engineers, executives, health care professionals, teachers, and pretty much any person who is in a profession that tends to reward perfectionism and over analysis.

Congrats! You've taken a huge step beginning to find the right counselor for you. You are so brave. Counseling with me starts with education. I want to equip you with the "therapy language" first, so you know exactly what it means to say words like attachment, codependence, trauma, mindfulness, and more. Next, I'll equip you with those practical tools you're looking for, like grounding & breathing exercises that you can start implementing into your daily life right away. I'll offer resources along the way and lots of handouts! (Can you tell I was a teacher in a previous life?!) Then, we'll look at your story...

I know that we don’t always feel equipped to help when our child or teen is struggling. My experience both in school and clinical settings helped me understand how to support those struggling with anxiety, depression and trauma. I specialize in working with children, teenagers, and parents. I believe young people deserve to feel safe, seen and connected. I also understand the challenges parents may face and also believe they deserve to feel connected, seen, and heard. Which is why, when appropriate, I offer parenting-focused consultations to provide parents with the tools they need, free from judgement.

Therapy is a place to slow down, explore who you are, get unstuck, and engage in the important work of improving your relationships with yourself and others. I am genuinely and deeply interested in you- what experiences have shaped you, how you view the world, yourself and those around you. You and I will explore what is working well for you and what isn't, and will work together to move you toward a life of greater peace, congruency, connection and authenticity. In our work, I want you to feel safe and fully seen for who you have been, who you are today, and who you can be in the future.

One of my very favorite quotes by Brene Brown is, "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they are never weakness." As life will sometimes present challenges that may be difficult to navigate, it's not necessary to navigate those challenges alone. I would love to support you in discovering the courage to navigate your truth. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I offer treatment that is goal oriented using a variety of therapeutic approaches.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
