I have almost 30 years of experience providing psychological assessment and therapeutic services to individuals across the age span. I employ a strengths-based approach to working with my clients. My philosophy is that both assessments and therapy are most effective when they are a collaborative process, allowing clients to build upon their resources to achieve their goals. My treatment focuses on developmental, behavioral, and emotional challenges including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders, social deficits/differences, disruptive behavior, and relationship difficulties.

My practice centers around helping people who are dealing with intense life challenges like anxiety, depression, self esteem issues or relational conflict etc. The typical clients I see are professional men or women, athletes or performers, and teenage boys. People coming to therapy want change in their lives and are struggling. I believe people will change or heal if they have someone in their corner who cares, understands, and compassionately redirects them toward their own internal resources each week. My main goal is to help you find your own inner resource of calm and confidence.

I'm not where I want or need to be. Where do I even begin? I seem to be the only one that struggles. Why can't I fit in? Maybe I just need to try harder or maybe I'll just numb out to it all. If you are in this place, I get it as I've been there. I thought I could find my own peace through making others happy or simply choosing to ignore the anxiety, sadness and despair around me. Fortunately, there are multiple paths to finding what you are looking for - all that is required is a willingness to open yourself up to the counseling process. You've already taken a huge step forward by finding your way to this page - there is hope.

Do you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or like you're just lost in the wilderness at times? Have you felt misunderstood or lonely in relationships? Or dealt with conflicts that seem ongoing or unsolvable? Have you struggled with racing thoughts or anxiety? Have you ever felt so sad that you didn't know how you’re going to get through it or so depressed that you can't find the energy to get through the day? Have you acted out of desperation to feel better? Or been so busy with life that you feel numb? Have you walked through life transitions that feel confusing or hopeless? Have you lost a pet or loved one and need relief from the grief?

I see the person as existing in four identifiably separate ways - physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally - yet so intricately formed into a single being. I see mental and emotional difficulties stemming from factors including past and present, genetics and environment, and a person's own ability and motivation to change. My job is to assist in your awareness of yourself in all four areas, but especially to facilitate your mental and emotional growth. No one knows you better than you. I will never be the expert on you. I would be honored to serve you through the counseling venue.

Many people desire a deeper understanding of their emotional lives. Often, childhood patterns can hinder our progress towards greater fulfillment and sense of purpose. We seek to understand our inner lives and gain deeper connections with others. As we search for greater meaning and belonging, we might get stuck in old feelings and fears that prevent us from moving forward. It is important to have a counselor to accompany each of us during the times of deep transition and change.

I believe we all deserve to feel safe, seen and connected. I specialize in working with children, as young as six years old, teenagers, and parents. I enjoy supporting those who have experienced depression, anxiety and trauma. I also understand the challenges parents may face and believe they deserve to feel connected, seen, and heard. I know that we don’t always feel equipped to help when our child is struggling. When appropriate, I offer parenting-focused consultations to provide parents with the tools they need, free from judgement.

Are you a college student? This holiday break might seem like a chance to catch your breath, but you may find yourself in burnout and dread. You might wonder how to truly recharge before diving back into another semester, heal depression, anxiety, or relationship issues. Or, as a recent graduate, you may feel pressure during family gatherings to explain your career choices (or lack thereof?) struggle with stress at your first job, or wrestle with uncertainty about finding a role that aligns with your interests and hard-earned skills. It's not uncommon for eating disorder habits, OCD, or suicidal thoughts to flare up in the holidays.

I am honored to work with individuals, and couples in an emotionally safe, caring, and confidential environment where trust and authentic communication are experienced. I am privileged to walk with clients on their journey if they are seeking to explore solutions to a specific concern of life, or of if they have a desire to move past the "state of survival" or complacency to "living fully" and experience life as we are designed to live. I am available weekdays, evenings, and occasionally weekends. For more information please go to my website.

Life can come with many unexpected obstacles which can cause some overwhelming experiences. Oftentimes, our instinct is to retreat when faced with negative experiences or bury them deep inside. Some of us can feel like if we seek help, we will be a burden to others which makes sitting with that feeling even more difficult. As an African American woman, I understand the importance of having someone to be a source of healing and support when you're tired of fighting to move forward alone. I'm here to serve clients on a journey toward restoration and relief in a collaborative and safe environment.

Many of the individuals I work with end their days feeling emotionally and physically drained—often due to unresolved anxiety or trauma. When your mind is constantly racing and restful sleep feels out of reach, simply trying to appear “okay” can feel like a full-time job. You may find yourself reacting more strongly than you'd like to those around you, or perhaps you’ve come to believe that living with the effects of past trauma is your only option..

Change happens inside of us all the time. It is a daily, intentional, purposeful act. When the pain of remaining the same is greater than the relief of being better, therapy helps. If you're having difficulty navigating relationships with your significant other, spouse, friends, children, or family members, I will help you achieve the change you want to see in yourself. Changes from within effect change around us.

Trauma expert Peter Levine stated, "Trauma is perhaps the most avoided, ignored, belittled, denied, misunderstood, and untreated cause of human suffering." At Be Found Counseling, we believe this whole heartedly. We see people, just like you, every day who come in asking the question, "why am I like this?" We know you want to live fully, without feeling the weight of anxiety, depression, overwhelm, hurt of the past and the struggle in the present. We know you want to heal. We know you want to feel whole.

I began working in the field over 25 years ago, in university counseling centers across the South. Now in private practice, I see adolescents-middle age adults. I strive to join my clients at the point in their process where old patterns are no longer working and collaborate with them to find new ones. I like to set goals together that provide a roadmap for the course of our work, and I challenge my clients to work on things not only in session, but also in their everyday lives. I view therapy as a temporary stop along life’s path; a realignment that sends my clients back out there as healthier and happier versions of themselves.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 37027?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
