Hi, I'm Khristopher, and one of the things that drew me to this work was realizing how many people struggle with life transitions that nobody actually prepares you for. School teaches you algebra, but not how to manage your emotions when everything feels overwhelming. You graduate and suddenly you're supposed to have it all figured out - career, relationships, purpose - with zero instruction manual. That gap between what life demands and what we're actually prepared for? That's where I come in. What I've learned is that once you have awareness, you can start directing your life instead of just reacting to it.

Hi, I'm Sophia. I came into this work through medical social work which means I've seen what happens when people are navigating the hardest, most confusing moments of their lives. Hospital rooms, difficult diagnoses, impossible decisions. What I learned is that people are far more resilient than they realize, and that healing becomes possible when someone truly sees you and walks alongside you through it. That's what I bring to every session. No matter what you're navigating, I want you to know that healing takes courage and you don't have to walk through this difficult season alone. I'm here.

My approach is neurodiversity affirming. My role as an evaluator is to listen, understand, & accept a client's lived experience & help identify their struggles, as well as identifying their strengths and aspirations. The evaluation process is a collaborative one in which clients, regardless of age (youths get to be truly heard), have an opportunity to share experiences without time constraints & without having to be viewed solely through a set of test data & questionnaires. While these tools can help clients communicate concerns, test data alone is not the best method in truly understanding one's unique experiences & circumstances.

Hi, I'm Beatrice. There's something powerful about being truly heard - not half-listened to while someone waits for their turn to talk, but genuinely understood. That feeling of being seen without judgment is rare, and it's exactly what I work to create in every session. I believe real growth happens when you feel safe enough to explore what's been weighing on you, without rushing or pretending. My role isn't to fix you - it's to help you recognize the strengths you already have and build on them. You're more capable than you realize, and sometimes all it takes is the right space to see it for yourself.

Hi, I'm Maria, and I know firsthand that life doesn't always go the way we planned. Sometimes you get news that changes everything - a diagnosis, a loss, a moment that splits your life into before and after. I work with people in those spaces. Women facing prenatal diagnoses they never anticipated. Families navigating medical journeys that feel impossible. Anyone walking through grief and trying to find meaning on the other side. I don't have all the answers, but I know how to sit with you in the hard stuff without rushing you through it. And I believe deeply in your ability to find joy and strength, even when it feels out of reach.

Hi, I'm Jalyssa. I grew up in a home where people came to be heard. My father was a pastor, my mother a cosmetologist - two very different worlds, but both built on the same thing: trust. People sat in our living room and in my mother's chair and shared what they couldn't say anywhere else. I learned early what it means to hold space for someone without judgment. That foundation shaped everything - my 15 years teaching adolescents, my work in rehabilitation, and now my calling as a counselor. I know what it's like to need someone in your corner. And I know what becomes possible when you finally have one.

Healing begins in the therapeutic connection. When a client feels genuinely met without judgment, their nervous system can soften enough to allow growth, insight, and change. I take a holistic, mind-body approach that honors the whole person, not just symptoms. My work integrates emotional, nervous-system, and practical support to help clients feel safer, more regulated, and less overwhelmed. Therapy with me is collaborative, compassionate, and paced to your needs—especially if you feel anxious, stuck, emotionally blocked, or exhausted from carrying too much alone.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
