While it's true that we humans are constantly in change, sometimes it's just too much to deal with on our own, We find ourselves struggling with identity or maybe we're mad we're in menopause, we become anxious or depressed or overwhelmed in general. That's where we therapists come in. We train to help others navigate life's difficult terrain. Studies have shown that the most important aspect of therapy is what's called the "therapeutic alliance", the strength of the relationship between a therapist and a client: the mutual trust, honest communication and feeling of safety within the confines of treatment.

As a clinical psychologist, people contact me for psychotherapy when experiencing emotional pain or distress, within themselves and sometimes their relationships. This pain can feel stuck and take on a life of its own, with ways of coping that no longer seem to be working. Yet the person feels ready for a change - ready to begin a process of growth and healing. Couples approach me for relationship therapy who struggle with disconnection, miscommunication, reactivity - couples stuck in negative patterns. These couples are ready for a change, ready for greater intimacy, security and connection in their most important relationship.

I believe relationships to be essential to how we develop into ourselves and extend ourselves to have a positive impact in our work, families, and communities. I think that many people seek therapy to unlock the love, hope, and dignity we all have available to us, and which sometimes become inaccessible or obscured by our fears and past hurts. I am interested in understanding and exploring your concerns, and finding ways to address them together in a safe and secure healing relationship.

I specialize in assisting individuals and couples with navigating life transitions, such as moving from adolescence into adulthood, adjusting to married life or parenthood, trauma, crisis of identity or purpose, divorce, loss, career change, and other twists and turns on the road of life. These are events which may be painful, but can offer unlimited potential for growth and self-discovery. I help clients seize these opportunities and use them to create lasting change.

I am a Jacksonville native and have been counseling for 20 years. Counseling is a calling and I consider it a privilege to work with individuals, families, and young adults towards the goal of enhancing their lives. Both my practice and lifestyle are a reflection of my belief in the value of fun, health, and balance. My practice is located in a beautiful two-story historic home in the Riverside/Five Points area. My 'office' is one of several independent practices in the home, and is a comfortable, warm, and private space for us to do good work.

I work with individuals and families who have experienced trauma, whether from a single event or a series of distressing experiences. Trauma often disrupts daily life in various ways. Sometimes the impact is more noticeable, such as avoiding places associated with the trauma, while at other times it is more subtle, like persistent feelings of unease, difficulty focusing, or challenges in relationships. Many people affected by trauma hope to forget these painful experiences and move forward, seeking healing and resolution.

For some, therapy provides a space to address an acute crisis, chronic symptoms or to expand awareness of oneself and sometimes a mix of all three. I believe therapy is most impactful when it is tailored to each person’s unique needs and concerns. This looks different for everyone and might even look different throughout your journey. Good therapy can help you to make the changes you have been struggling with, identify the patterns that might be holding you back and ultimately help you to create a more fulfilling life.

Sometimes talk therapy is not enough. I want my clients to know three things: that change is possible, what change feels like physically and emotionally, and that the power for change resides in you. I’ve been helping clients for 32 years, to uncover the root cause of their problems and help rewire the brain using techniques such as EFT, Energy Psychology, and PSYCH-K. These complementary and holistic techniques can be used in a specific individual plan to help shift your life. At this time I am only providing virtual sessions.

I believe what contributes to my attunement with my clients is my genuine respect for who they are as individuals, my curiosity about and willingness to be affected by their life stories, and my focus on identifying their resiliencies. I strive to be a highly engaged therapist and maintain knowledge of current, evidence-based approaches. I have practiced across a spectrum of settings. This, along with my own life experiences that led to an appreciation for the complexity of being human, and my attunement with my clients are what I believe to be at the core of my effectiveness.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
