As humans, our natural inclination is to move away from pain. But at a certain point, we may find that the strategies that once protected us are causing us even more pain. Together we can find ways to break old cycles that are keeping you stuck in order for you to move into the wholeness you desire. Many times when healing feels impossible, it is only an indication that what we have tried so far will not suffice. Often this requires slowing down and trusting parts of ourselves that we have long ignored.

I am a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in working with children and adolescents. I also work with adults. While post-graduate training, and teaching, have increased my skills, what makes me a good therapist are the beliefs I hold dear. I believe in people and their ability to heal and thrive. I believe that the connection I have with my clients not only allows them to open up to me, but others as well. Most importantly, I believe that working with others is a tremendous responsibility and a sacred trust. It is an honor I never take lightly.

It can be difficult to be human at times. Life can be full of so many losses and challenges, and with busy and demanding schedules, it may not feel like there's any time to process what you’ve gone through. Maybe you’ve found yourself masking and suppressing your real feelings, and as a result, you don’t feel as connected and fulfilled with yourself and your world. In our work together, you're free to explore your emotions and seek deeper insight into who you are. I prefer to think of my role as that of a lantern, bringing to light aspects that you may not have realized and that may be limiting you from leading the life you desire.

I enjoy working with diverse individuals experiencing a variety of life stressors including life transitions, complex trauma and child/adolescent social and emotional issues. I believe that everyone can change, yet most don’t have the tools to do so. Early childhood experiences shape the way we see the world, ourselves, and others. We can often go through life without acknowledging our unhealthy, subconscious thoughts until we start to recognize harmful patterns in our lives. Bringing emotions such as fear, shame, and insecurities to the light will keep them from taking root any further.

Hello there and welcome! I'm so glad you're here. Personal challenges require courage and belief in oneself to conquer. I believe perception plays a key role in the mental healthiness of individuals and many times distorted perception can hinder us from growth. I love working with individuals who seek to develop healthy coping mechanisms and increase overall self esteem. My passion in counseling is working with individuals who experience anxiety and other mood disorders in addition to challenges with life transitions, self-esteem, and social skills. I love working with children, adolescents, and young adults as individual clients.

Embracing change can sometimes seem like a daunting task. Even when our life experiences have a negative impact on us and those we care about, breaking away from familiarity can be challenging. Often, we find ourselves unsure of where to start. Seeking counseling can be the first step towards creating a life that aligns with our desires and aspirations.

I earned my Master’s degree in Community Mental Health Counseling at Malone University in 2008. While in school, I led and developed the program, “How to Counsel the Black Family.” I also trained for seven years to work with individuals charged with DUI in Ohio. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 2010 and worked with various core agencies and private businesses throughout Georgia. In 2012, I received certification in Rational Living Therapy and became a state-certified professional counselor supervisor.

Marriage is a sacred and holy covenant ordained by God that takes place between a man and a woman. Any marriage that begins outside of these boundaries is bound for turbulence, and in many cases, utter destruction that impacts generations that arise from it. In fact, today, over half of all marriages will end in divorce. As a counselor who specializes in premarital and marital therapy, I know all too well the various dynamics that lead couples into troubled waters. I am here to prevent you from wading too deeply and to offer a life-preserver for those who have already taken the plunge.

Are you struggling with feeling disconnected to yourself and others? Does it feel impossible to find the strength or motivation to get through your days? If you find yourself answering yes to these questions, therapy may be a fit for you. I take a relational approach to therapy in which I prioritize the alliance formed between myself and my clients. I believe the therapy space is one that facilitates growth, healing, and connection to oneself and others. I desire to know my clients deeply and communicate that understanding to them in a way that brings about insight.

Do you feel like something is wrong but you can't quite figure out what it is? Like everyone else seems to have it together but you don't know how they do it? Does your to-do list never seem to end, and suddenly there's no time left for the things that bring you joy, let alone self-care? Maybe you're constantly fighting a feeling that you're not good enough. Or certain patterns from the past keep inexplicably repeating themselves in the present. Maybe your inner child is yelling for help but you're not sure how to help them. These things can leave you feeling even more overwhelmed, stressed, burned out, or uncertain.

Sometimes we come to a place where we realize the life we are living is not aligned with our personal values, purpose, or desires. There may be patterns that have served a purpose in the past, helping us manage fear when we have felt unsafe and haven't had the resources to effectively cope. While these strategies may have helped you survive, they may now be holding your body and mind hostage to the past. Together we can explore these patterns with the goal to help you develop personal insight, learn new coping strategies, and heal into a fulfilled life.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
