Are you feeling unworthy of the life you are living or maybe incompetent in the role that you have? Maybe it feels like every thought that crosses your mind is a spiraling rabbit hole of worst-case scenarios, and it’s creating a barrier to reaching your fullest potential. Has it felt like you’ve been on an emotional roller coaster of sadness, anxiety, or confusion and you feel like the ride is never going to end? Perhaps an unsettling sense of wanting to isolate or build walls within your close relationships. You always make sure everyone else is taken care of first; however, you know it’s time for something different. Time for you.

We humans are wired for contact and connection. Yet sometimes we don't know how to develop the needed connections; relationship building and managing one’s life effectively can thus be both terrifying and exhilarating . Lack of healthy support and resultant traumas leave us depressed, anxious, isolated, or insecure, leading to addictions, obsessions and compulsions, poor communication, relationship difficulties, or general dis-ease in one’s life. Yet healing is possible, and finding a therapist with whom you resonate is crucial.

My clients are folks, who despite their consistent efforts, are caught in cycles of rupture and reactivity in their most precious relationships. Sometimes this look like being stuck in a loop of overstimulation, irritation, activation, and "loosing it", sometimes this looks like shutting down and boarding up. When we do not have our own emotional needs met, it feels nearly impossible to meet our children, or our partners and loved ones where they are. Our wounds and challenges reveal themselves in relationship AND they also heal in relationships! This means we can address and shift them within the therapeutic relationship!

My approach to therapy starts with learning about how the individual has come to experience the world, knowing that this is shaped by traumatic events, societal expectations, attachments to primary caregivers, systemic racism, wiring passed down by ancestors, conditioned responses of the nervous system, so forth and so on. In doing so, we might also uncover blind spots that contribute to the ways we show up in our lives that no longer serve us. My style is direct and open, using a here-and-now perspective rooted in mindfulness-based and existential-humanistic theories.

I chose to enter the counseling field as a teen after I saw a counselor myself. My experience opened me up to learning to cope with things in a way that I had never learned. I was so changed by this process that I decided I wanted to give others what had been given to me.

Hi, I’m Sam! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who helps children and families find calm, connection, and confidence again. I believe that every child’s behavior is their way of communicating, and with curiosity, patience, and a little (or a lot of) playfulness, we can uncover what’s really going on underneath the surface. I work with kids who are feeling anxious or overwhelmed. I have advanced training in supporting children ages 0-5 and their caregivers, including those healing from early attachment disruptions or complex trauma. I have experience working with neurodivergence, sexual trauma, school-related stressors, and more.

Being a human can be difficult, and we all build walls that help us move through this difficulty. Sorting out which are supporting us and which are old news is a pivotal part of evolving and continually showing up. The second piece is integrating this information, and meeting the You that exists today fully. There is only so much healing we can do alone in our rooms, and coming back to life means returning to the world. Whether the impetus to reach out is a new grievance, old trauma, recent recovery, impending ceremony, or a desire to be a more clarified version of yourself, I'm here to hold and explore it all with you.

You imagined becoming a parent would change your life, but you may not have expected just how much it would change you. Many parents find themselves feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or grieving parts of their pre-parenthood life. You might love your child deeply and still struggle with exhaustion, anxiety, resentment, loneliness, or a sense that you've lost yourself along the way. If this sounds familiar, you're not alone.

I'm experienced in working with post-traumatic stress, mood disorders, life transitions, and relationships. I offer special consideration to those who are responsible for others and exposed to trauma regularly at work or at home. I offer direct feedback, and a sense of humor is deeply appreciated.

60% of men will experience a traumatic event in their life, but unlike women, only 36% will receive treatment. Life is a hell of a thing but, as men, the expectation is to just deal with it. Are things so bad you are too scared to try anything different? Even when we don’t have the words for what we are going through, how we interpret our life makes a big difference. When we don’t talk about what is going on, it can negatively impact the people we care about. What you think and how you feel matters. Your life’s story deserves to be told. It also needs to be heard and accepted as it makes sense to you.
