I believe that the deepest healing happens when therapy is rooted in connection, empathy, and compassion, so my first goal is to create an environment in which you feel understood and supported. Likewise, I believe we are truly whole when our most important relationships are thriving – including our relationship with ourselves. Strengthening these relationships is a primary focus of my therapeutic approach, along with the attainment of embodiment, mindfulness, and freedom. I work from a psychodynamic and experiential perspective to guide you towards an experience of authenticity and alignment with yourself, others, and the world.

You are doing your best to hold it all together, but life feels heavy—and somewhere along the way, you stopped feeling like yourself. You show up for everyone else, but you’re running on empty. I work best with ADHD professionals who want to grow without pretending to have it all figured out. As someone with ADHD myself, I get it. You don’t need fixing; you need a real relationship and a space to breathe, make sense of things, and find your way back to you. That’s what we do here.

I believe we are born into a world of stories. They tell us who we are, how things should be, and what we are supposed to become. We go through life influenced by and adding to these stories, which can be sources of strength or limitation. You're probably coming to see me because your story is making you feel trapped. Or maybe your story has shattered and everything you thought you knew doesn't make sense anymore. I want to help you sort through the pieces and put the pen back in your hand. A lot of folks come in thinking they are irredeemable, beyond repair. I believe the strongest antidote is honest, nonjudgmental connection.

In times like these it can feel like you’re losing a lot: losing hope, losing sleep, losing control. But pain can be productive. Struggles can be opportunities to see what we're made of. They can also be the impetus to make changes we've been putting off, maybe out of fear that they would upset the balance we work so hard to maintain. Right now during this pandemic, it's hard to find one thing in our lives that hasn't changed and there are so many unknowns. It can be very difficult to persevere when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel and when your usual outlets for support and coping are now limited.

I was drawn to social work out of my desire to understand and empathize with human suffering. I believe that all of us, at some point in our lives, can benefit from healing therapy sessions. The bulk of my career has been in Hospice care, although I've been in private practice for approximately 10 years. We can grieve over the changes in life that don't always involve a death, such as postpartum, divorce, empty nest and caring for our parents. I can help to cope with these transitions as well. I also have experience counseling those with depression and anxiety.

You’ve carried a lot — responsibilities, grief, trauma, and the weight of trying to keep everything together. I bring that perspective into my work as a Master of Social Work intern at LSU, combined with clinical training and years of real-world experience. As a veteran and former Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, I have supported people of all ages and backgrounds through physical, emotional, and life challenges. My own experiences with loss and adversity have deepened my understanding of resilience and the courage it takes to heal.

Jameson Halberg is not currently accepting new clients. Stuck in a transitional rut? Old traumas or inner conflicts re-surfacing? Are patterns of surviving no longer letting you thrive? Relationships feeling like a burden? The weight of our world is getting heavier to bear. Sometimes we just need a witness to help bear our experience. To listen. To join. To CARE.

The ordinary middle: where most regular folks find the right level of care for their mental health challenges. A specialist, as your situation goes beyond the primary care setting. But this side of the opposite extreme, those complex, serious cases requiring a psychiatrist in-person. Your situation is in the middle range, and you need a listening ear, compassionate understanding, and safe and effective medication. This is where we can help: focused attention by a psychiatric specialist Advanced Practice Provider through convenient and comfortable virtual appointments from the privacy of your home, office, or wherever you care to be.

I work with individuals to support relationship concerns, trauma, depression, anxiety, etc. I have found effective growth and change is rooted in a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. In my holistic approach, I evaluate and challenge the mind, body and emotions. This provides external skills and internal growth that makes for lasting effects in relationship and within self. I truly believe that people are resilient. When someone is motivated to change, given the opportunity to be understood, validated and compassionately challenged, they can meet their therapy goals.

Life is full of a good deal of various types of suffering, much of which strikes in unexpected and unwanted moments. Kurt Vonnegut wrote that "we are here to help each other get through this thing, whatever it is," and I pledge to work with my clients to shift our relationship with our own suffering. I want to both reduce the heaviness of one's inner problematic experiences and to create more space and balance with how they are experienced.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 28759?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
