My life's passion is working with people in transitional times of their lives especially young adults and middle-aged adults as they move into new life stages or search for a fulfilling career. I greatly enjoy working with LGTBQIA+ clients and with the Latino and other immigrant communities, and I am also passionate about working with couples, helping partners improve communication and gain insight into how our pasts affect current relationships. I have a special interest in helping people with relationship issues as well as issues related to break-up and divorce, and I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and parents.

Sometimes the stories we’ve been told—or the stories we tell ourselves—make us feel like we’re too much, not enough, or just "wrong" in a world designed for someone else. That's why I love working with clients to untangle old narratives and build new ones that allow for living authentically, where your pain can be held, and your fears can be overcome. Whether you’re experiencing frequent arguments, emotional distress, infidelity or intimacy issues, or challenges adjusting to big changes, we will collaborate on ways to re-author the stories that no longer serve you, rebuild trust, and resolve conflicts.

Most of us have walked through a season when life just feels hard. You may be walking through one right now causing you to look for some support. These seasons can look different for everyone! You might be a family unit that just can't get seem to get on the same page or recently faced a change in family dynamics and needing to find a new normal. You could be a parent of a child or adolescent that is struggling with sadness, anger, friendships, self-esteem, or school related issues. Maybe for you or for yourself and your partner, life just feels overwhelming or stressful and you are looking for an objective person to talk with.

Stepping into therapy can be daunting. We have all had times in our life of feeling stuck and unable to move forward without assistance. If you are ready to take the next step, just send me a short inquiry email or text. I respond to all contacts. My style of working is both eclectic and individualized and my goal is to meet people where they are and help them find their way.

Currently accepting new clients! I’m not your typical talk-therapist. I am dynamic in the sense that I’ve been trained in many different evidenced-based models, theories, and techniques, but the therapy that I provide derives from what is needed most by the client sitting in front of me. I’m fun, energetic and real. I don’t mind being direct when necessary, and I think it’s okay to sometimes disclose information about myself;after all, the passion and interest that I have for helping others is directly related to my lived experience of trying to ground myself in an unsettled world.

You’ve carried a lot — responsibilities, grief, trauma, and the weight of trying to keep everything together. I bring that perspective into my work as a therapist, combined with clinical training and years of real-world experience. As a veteran and former Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, I have supported people of all ages and backgrounds through physical, emotional, and life challenges. My own experiences with loss and adversity have deepened my understanding of resilience and the courage it takes to heal.

I've worked within the NC Medicaid mental health and developmental disability system for the past 20 years  As a parent and caregiver I know how important it is to have support especially in challenging times. My practice is small, offering in-person in Hendersonville NC, and tele-health across NC. I try to be flexible to meet when you need, and offer a trusted relationship. I also value the important and beneficial relationship we can have with animals. If you choose, and appropriate, in-person sessions may occur with your animal or one of my dogs. It’s most important that the therapy is a fit for you and you can be yourself.

You’ve always been the responsible one. The capable one. The one everyone turns to. But lately, it’s feeling heavier than usual, like you’re holding everything together on the outside, while quietly unraveling on the inside. You may not call it trauma, but you’ve spent years adapting, pleasing, and performing just to feel safe and loved. Now you’re exhausted, anxious, disconnected and unsure how to stop over-functioning long enough to actually rest.

Milton Erickson once wrote that people don’t come to therapy “for enlightenment about the unchangeable past but because of dissatisfaction with the present and a desire to better the future.” I love working with people who feel stuck—helping them find different ways of making sense of their past, change how they interact in the present, and build a better future that is in line with their values and their goals. We accomplish this by building better insight about the self and relationships, healing wounds from traumatic or disturbing experiences, and developing practical strategies to bring about healthy and sustainable change.

Do you constantly reminisce back to a time in your life when things just “felt better?” We as humans tend to avoid things that make us uncomfortable, whether it be conversations, places, or even emotions. My goal as your therapist is to support you while you explore what is presently keeping you from feeling better as we identify and address what's keeping you stuck.

Our wounds are the very place where meaningful wholeness and healing growth can begin. In over 30 years of private practice with individuals, couples and families, I have engaged deeply with my clients in the varied ways they come to heal. In individual psychotherapy - curiosity, resolving past trauma, parts/body work, understanding family patterns, dream symbols and longing may all be your doorways to healing and to discovering your strengths and what feeds your soul. I welcome and nurture growth in your whole person - body/mind/spirit - and bring playfulness, experience and courage to this essential work.

My ideal client is willing to rethink what therapy looks and feels like - being open to a variety of techniques; collaborating; and engaging body, mind, and emotions, particularly in the outdoors. I conduct experiential outdoor sessions (when weather permits), helping clients in connecting with themselves by grounding in the supportive power of nature. Walking and talking in an outdoor space allows us to engage in an informal environment, while still providing therapeutic benefits.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
