I enjoy working with clients that want to enrich their narrative and explore the unique aspects of their identity and relationships. I accept, without judgement, individuals that seek to deepen connections with themselves, their partners, and other meaningful relationships they seek to maintain and strengthen. I have experience working with clients that have co-existing health conditions and complex traumas, that they wish to untangle and examine to learn from their experiences to better their future and quality of life.

I started my career as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry, working and leading teams for the International Space Station and a satellite mission. Wanting to work more closely with people, I switched to business strategy consulting, traveling to Fortune 100 companies on a weekly basis for two years. While I got the chance to solve complex problems, I realized I wanted to help people solve the problems that mattered to them at a deeper level. This, coupled with my own recovery journey, is what drives me to do exceptional therapy work today.

My personal philosophy and approach to counseling begins and ends with grace and a willingness to enter into my clients’ experiences alongside them. I became active in this field because I have an authentic, listening heart that desires to see people live as whole, healthy, individuals. My interests include depression, anxiety, self-esteem, peer and family relationships. With a master’s degree in education and experience working in schools, I also provide academic, social, and emotional support. Treatment plans are created based on the individuals' needs and combine evidenced based practices with personal wellness.

The typical clients I work with are like you and me, usually have successful careers, have a faith orientation, although not always, and have a tremendous longing to find, repair, or revitalize something gone wrong in themselves or in relationship with those closest. They are individuals and couples who are hurting at their core, who want more than just a quick fix, a few techniques, or merely a listening ear. They want answers, real, deep, transforming answers. They realize deep down that it is probably going to take longer than they want or expect. But, they are longing and willing to do whatever it takes to get to a better place

I believe while therapists may be the experts of therapy, clients are the experts of themselves. Part of what this means is that you are responsible for your energy and direction of the treatment process. I will help you develop and facilitate your goals, and then you will be the one responsible for doing the work. This could mean there is work to be done between sessions, collaboration with other outside people, or opportunities to embrace difficult moments. Therapy is not about a “fix.” It is about healing and growth, both of which take time and effort. I believe most of you are hurting now. I honor and revere that.

I genuinely love working with my clients. I purposely maintain a small practice that allows me to really get to know each of my clients and to focus on each individual's specific concerns and goals. Although I work intensively with my clients, my approach is flexible, interpersonal, warm, and client driven. I work with individuals dealing with depression, loss, anxiety, relationship issues/conflicts, stress, low self-esteem, codependency, life transitions, pet grief/loss, and personal growth. I also enjoy working with diverse populations, including LGBTQIA clients.

If you feel unsure on how to navigate through daily life stress, you're not alone. Sometimes we get caught up in the different roles we fulfill and lose ourselves in the process. Maybe you've coped with mental and emotional instability by suppressing how you feel or have engaged in negative behaviors that make the situation worse. Whatever your going through, it won't define who you are nor should you allow it to hold you hostage. You have the inner strength to push through any circumstance, all you need is support and the right motivation.

I am a licensed psychotherapist with 20 years of experience. I believe our greatest healing emerges out of our deepest trauma, challenges and struggles. My belief is that we have a core that is unshakeable and I am committed to offering my clients a warm, respectful and non-judging space in which to explore and recognize their own resilience and restore balance in their daily lives. Often when we are overwhelmed by life we isolate ourselves from those who can help us most. I support my clients in developing tools to manage the ups and downs of life.

How can I find a therapist in 28226?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
