Everyone has an individual story with experiences that make them unique. There is not one answer that fits all. Many times in life we get stuck and are not sure where to turn. We misplace hope, and life gets out of focus. In these times we need support and encouragement to help us realign our lives and discover what we desperately need to find fulfillment and success. I believe that the counseling journey is one in where both the counselor and the client work together to discover a better sense of self in relationship with others, while growing a more intimate connection with God. Hope is found in true healing and wholeness.

Life is complicated. Often the difficulties and stress we face create conflict and struggles that need to be shared with others. Through counseling, I believe that clients can find relief from the stress and pain of broken relationships, addiction, past traumas and unidentified emotional and spiritual wounds. I primarily work with adults experiencing anxiety or depression. I also work with people experiencing grief or who have been in abusive relationships. I work collaboratively with clients to help them find peace and rest in the midst of daily life.

Do you feel like you are in the same relationships all the time no matter who you are with? Perhaps experiencing attachment to unhealthy patterns and/or people? Maybe you had an unpleasant medical experience and now fear care. Perhaps you look in the mirror and don't feel your best. Maybe you have difficulty saying "no" and lean towards "people-pleasing" tendencies. Because people would be mad at you, right? Do you have difficulty with boundaries? Maybe some FOMO or isolating in your sweats watching Netflix but you want more social interactions? If you answered yes to any or all of these, you are in the right place!

It is no secret that parenting is hard. When you add your child’s mental health and/or behavioral health needs into the mix it can add another level of complexity. Children and adolescents often have difficulty managing their emotional responses, have limited communication skills, and limited coping strategies; this can impact how they engage in the world around them. I would like to help your child feel more in control and confident to take on whatever the world hands them.

Sometimes life comes at you fast. Unexpected events occur or transitions happen. That's what makes life exciting, but also challenging at times. Whether it be a job transition, adjusting to a new family, relationship issues or trying to find your way as a parent during the teenage years (or navigating life as a teenager yourself!), these experiences can often cause stress in our lives. As a result, you might find yourself not sleeping well, feeling anxious, experiencing low self-esteem, anger and sadness. You often wonder, when will everything get better and I'll feel like myself again?

At times it can be difficult to feel in control, stay motivated, and find fulfillment despite all the pressures from our society and those we develop for ourselves. We arrive at more trying moments at different points in life, and all meet these challenges with unique experiences, beliefs, circumstances, and minds. Many of us are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, confusion about goals for our future, low self-esteem, body image issues, and relationship difficulties. An effort to deal with one obstacle can lead to developing habits and ways of coping that create new difficulties in another area.

A person's natural tendency is to gravitate toward health and wholeness. Sometimes when trying to move toward goals and the most authentic expression of self, we get stuck by internal or external barriers. I enjoy working with clients who are willing to step into vulnerability even when it's scary and who are open to exploring creative approaches to healing. With curiosity, you can discover meaning within emotional pain and grow beyond limits you might have internalized.

Authenticity is the foundation of a trusting relationship. I value the importance of bringing my real self to each session and leading with openness and empathy. Whether you're dealing with a significant change in your life or grappling with challenges like anxiety, depression, or substance abuse problems, I would love to be a pillar of support for you. I recognize how intimidating it can be to trust a provider, and I understand the complexity of navigating queer and gender-diverse relationships in a heteronormative society.

It’s not that therapy isn’t for everybody. You just haven’t found the right therapist. Navigating life can be heavy all by itself…but when you’re not getting the support you need, it can feel heavier. You don’t have to walk through life struggling to figure it out alone. Being that person may have worked for you in the past, but it’s no longer serving you, and I think you’re beginning to understand. I'm here to support you as you navigate beyond that.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
