Specializing in complex trauma and chronic childhood traumatization, I am a Emdria Certified EMDR Therapist and Consultant, and teach EMDR nationally with the EMDR Institute as a Facilitator. EMDR is the top choice of the World Health Organization for trauma, given both research validation, and EMDR's ability to heal without clients re-living or speaking excessively about terrible events. Integration of other methods such as Ego State Therapy enables me to treat the complex trauma spectrum, from CPTSD to dissociative disorders. Many treatment-resistant or confusing symptoms are the result of complex trauma. I treat all ages.

My goal as a therapist is to meet clients where they are and walk alongside them on their journey to find peace and healing in a non-judgmental, safe space. We all suffer and have struggles, but we each have the capacity for growth and building a life that promotes health and well-being. I see the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative partnership that supports and empowers individuals to heal mind, body, and spirit, freeing themselves from past and present pain to create lasting positive change. My desire is to help others gain the tools and confidence to face and overcome life’s challenges long after therapy ends.

My ideal client is someone who is open to the process of change and motivated to change. They may be struggling to cope with a loss, past trauma, or going through current life changes and stressors leaving them now looking for support, and to learn new ways to cope. Therapy is a process, so patience with one's self and the process is key.

Life is complicated. I want to help clients navigate life’s challenges to find their path to peace. My ideal client could be someone who is dealing with unresolved conflict from the past or present. My ideal client could also be someone someone with relationship issues such as codependency or being raised in a toxic home. I completed a hospital internship, have taught psychology at the university level, and I am now in private practice. I frequently see patients who have been in treatment previously with little improvement. Careful diagnostic investigation often reveals an incomplete diagnosis and consequently the wrong treatment plan. A careful evaluation of your problems will be my first priority and we will jointly develop a treatment plan. I have extensive experience in the testing and treatment of childhood and adolescent disorders including ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum disorders, Depression, Phobias and Anxiety Disorders.

My ideal client is struggling with anxiety, depression, or trauma's effects. They feel stuck in negative thought patterns and self-limiting beliefs, but have the courage to dive deep, get to the root of their suffering, and do the hard work of healing. They want to break free of pain, fear, and shame to live a more fulfilled life. I feel called to guide them on this profound journey of growth. My role is to provide a judgement-free space for them to process emotions, gain insights, and rediscover their inner light. Together we can unravel old wounds, quiet the inner critic, and plant the seeds for a new chapter of self-actualization

It's easy to feel disconnected from ourselves and our loved ones, leading to stress, anxiety, depression, and strained relationships. You might feel exhausted, trapped by the past or caught up in worries about the future. You're tired of questioning yourself and where you're headed. You're ready to feel at ease and confident in yourself. You want to break free from the past and THRIVE rather than just survive.

Counseling should be a safe and judgment-free place for individuals to voice their concerns. In a world where we are constantly judged, I feel that counseling provides a unique place to allow for personal understanding and growth while reflecting on what drives our concerns, emotions, and behaviors. The counseling journey should be a joint partnership to help the client realize their own potential for growth. I use a variety of therapeutic interventions that are centered around each individual.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for over 20 years. I have had the opportunity to work within very unique and challenging clinical settings, including within a school, within a psychiatric center, within a residential campus and for the past decade within my current outpatient practice. The aforementioned settings have afforded a wealth of empirically based mental health insight and training, while also allowing efforts to gather invaluable clinical experiences working with adults and adolescents, dealing with mental health issues ranging from anxiety, depression, Bipolar Disorder and various other personality disorders.

As a clinical social worker and psychotherapist, I have a great respect for each individual's unique circumstances. My background and training is in psychology as well as the systems and factors that influence each of our lives. My approach to therapy is client centered, relational, and flexible. Each individual is unique and deserves the time it takes for their circumstances to be heard and understood, only then can a plan be formulated that best supports each client in reaching their personal goals.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
