When describing my work as a therapist, I often say that therapy is the art of having awkward conversations. The things that come up during therapy sessions aren’t often broached around the dinner table or at social gatherings, so talking about them can feel overwhelmingly weird. No one wakes up in the morning and says, "Hmm. You know what I'd like to do today? Spend an hour talking to a stranger and tell them all my deep, dark secrets." Sometimes, though, life circumstances, interpersonal difficulties, and emotional troubles make these conversations necessary. This is where I come in.
I enjoy helping people deal with the life weirdness that comes with mental health concerns. My goal as a therapist is to provide my clients with a safe place to discuss whatever is on their minds. No problem is too big or too small, and it is often through working through the small problems that we learn how to handle the bigger ones.
I approach therapy from a strong social justice perspective. This has become particularly necessary in light of the current political climate in the US, which has made life increasingly difficult for many people. I stand in solidarity with anyone facing discrimination and oppression and my office is a safe place to explore these concerns.
