I work with individuals navigating major life and relational transitions, including separation, identity shifts, and maternal mental health challenges. I also have extensive experience working with college students and early-career professionals managing anxiety, academic pressure, performance stress, and identity concerns. Many clients appear capable and outwardly steady while internally experiencing overwhelm or getting stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. My style is direct, warm, and collaborative, and humor naturally shows up when helpful. Work together focuses on insight, emotional steadiness, and sustainable change.

Living in darkness can be challenging, unattended mental health combined with substance use can be a very dark place. Oftentimes, we do not recognize there is a light that lies ahead. If this describes or resonates with you. Know that you are not alone—and I am here to help. Indeed, healing commences with real human connection and therapy can be a space that feels comfortable, a place where you can exhale and find moments of clarity and even humor as you show up just as you are.

Life can feel overwhelming. It’s easy to get stuck in patterns that once kept you safe but now create frustration or distance. I provide a space to slow down, notice your inner world, and explore the emotions, patterns, and longings that guide you.
I work with people experiencing anxiety, panic, OCD, relational or narcissistic abuse, lingering effects of trauma, and career or relationship challenges. I also support those facing emptiness, grief, heartbreak, burnout, or creative blocks.
Together, we’ll untangle repetitive thoughts, soften negative self-talk, and build stronger connections—with yourself and others.

Together, we'll work on helping you reconnect with your most authentic self, build confidence, and develop new ways of coping and relating to others. And if you aren't sure what's wrong or what you need, I offer psychological assessment, working as a detective to clarify a diagnosis, find the best treatments, and help you move forward.

Working with college age and adult women navigating boundaries, relationships and trauma is my passion! I have been in private practice, as well as an expert witness and professor during the last 20 years. Helping women navigate womanhood in a fast-paced, demanding world—those who carry a lot, achieve a lot, and are quietly exhausted by it all- is my objective.
This is not passive therapy. We hit the ground running day one. Many of my clients come to me after trying therapy before and it not creating lasting change. I do meaningful work over venting in circles. IG: sarahunderscorebarkleyunderscoreLCSW

Hello! I am a licensed clinical psychologist who works with adults facing a range of difficulties, from self-esteem and relationship issues to depression and anxiety. Although I work with people from all walks of life, I tend to fit best with those experiencing a significant transition (e.g., new parenthood, new career), struggling to integrate the personal and the professional, or questioning aspects of their identity, values, or relationships. I help people to better understand how their past experiences have shaped their present functioning and recognize their strengths so that they can move forward with clarity and confidence.

I celebrate, respect, and honor our essential needs for wellness, balance, peace, and connection. Just like healthy eating, exercise, spiritual practice, and supportive family and friends, therapy is a way of helping people to be healthy and to have harmonious and fulfilling lives. The process of living also brings seasons of transition, crisis, and despair. In such times, therapy is often a refuge of support, validation, healing, and hope. I welcome you to what I believe will be a meaningful therapeutic experience.

Relationships are a place of healing and growth. And sometimes we get stuck and need support. Maybe you’re looking for a couples therapist to help you and your partner learn how to communicate, regulate your emotions, and be vulnerable with each other. Maybe you're considering opening your relationship and you want to talk about boundaries and expectations. Or you need help repairing after you or one of your partners damaged the trust of your relationship. You don’t have to do this alone.

Mental health is an essential part of our well-being. Taking care of our mental well-being is as important as our physical well-being. Unfortunately, for some, mental health falls last in Maslow's hierarchy. Taking care of ourselves and finding balance is not easy. It takes time and may even require multiple attempts. I want to create a space where making mistakes and being imperfect is welcomed, creating a safe environment where you can be exactly who you were meant to be. I always remind my clients during our sessions that the only person judging them is themselves.

Looking for answers? Seeking a solution for you or your loved one? Learning difficulties, focus problems, emotional challenges or feeling as though you or your loved one aren’t living up to potential? Let’s have a conversation to determine whether a psychological assessment or therapy will help you get closer to your goals. While the new school year brings a fresh start and great intentions, it can often be very frustrating when that is not enough to create lasting change. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Learning Disabilities, and Psychological Disorders often adversely impact one’s ability to function and thrive. When these challenges are not adequately addressed, it can be disheartening when so much potential is hidden beneath the disorders.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
