Welcome! I'm so glad that you are in the process of looking for someone to talk to. I have been counseling since 2008, but became passionate about working with prospective and new parents after the birth of my daughter in 2016. I now specialize in all things related to the transition to parenthood - whether during the stage of planning a family, pregnancy, or postpartum. There are many issues that commonly arise during this transition, including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, family dynamic issues, work/life concerns, and generally feeling stressed and overwhelmed!

If you find yourself existing, but not really living, and have wondered if mental health counseling could help - now is a great time to prioritize yourself and your emotional well-being. Surviving trauma and adverse life experiences may have you feeling disconnected, isolated, and unsure how to get yourself back to being you; perhaps your self-esteem and trust in others never recovered, or you are finding yourself self-destructing instead of recovering. I can help you understand how your trauma and stressful experiences have impacted you and your mental health; I can show you how to heal a wound you thought would never fade.

Together we will move towards a hopeful, more positive future. I enjoy working with children ages 2 and up, pre-adolescents, adolescents, and adults. I also specialize in working with college-aged students and young adults, and women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Many of my adult clients reflect on personal values, family-of-origin issues, and insights on self-esteem and self-identity. My ideal client is one that has had weight problems and is looking for that "something else" to make permanent changes to their life. You have tried losing weight, you have been successful at losing weight only to have the weight sneak back on. You have tried a program or maybe even several programs, only to find yourself back at square one or worse then that, heavier then ever before. Most diet programs do not provide small educational steps that are maintainable and usable forever. nor help you gain insight into your true relationship with food, a critical necessity. That is where I come in.

I am convinced that very few people seek therapy. What they want is relief; that is, to feel better (less depressed, anxious or stuck), fix something (problems with a relationship whether love, family or at work) figure out something (solve a problem or make an important decision without the potential of regret) and/or just talk to someone who will let them speak their mind in a non-judgmental environment. Therapy or coaching is just how they get there. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you do or where, if you’re wanting to feel better, get to that next level or just get on with your life, click here: https://tinyurl.com/yvbup96n.

It never ceases to amaze me how beautifully unique we all are, and at the most fundamental level, how much we have in common. We all strive for belonging and accomplishment, to be seen and heard. We all have the capacity to fully engage with this human experience: the highs and the lows and everything in between. To decide that you would like counseling, does not imply that you are "sick" or "abnormal." It implies that you are aware. You are aware that you want more, aware that there is a potential wanting to be fulfilled, or aware of a hurt that wants to heal.

I would describe myself and my style of counseling as quirky, comfy, professional, and relaxed. I do not have a prescriptive way I work with clients, but tailor my approach to meet each person’s needs. I prioritize truly getting to know you as a whole person, not just a list of symptoms to be fixed. I want to meet you where you are and work collaboratively to meet your goals. I aim to provide a warm, non-judgmental space for you to grow, learn, and face challenges safely. I strive to be a source of encouragement and accountability in your journey by using a variety of treatment modalities and techniques to help you feel better.

If things at home are tense, chaotic, or not working, therapy can guide you to repairing, restructuring and rebuilding these relationships. Often, people get sucked into repeated conflicts that go in circles, reach stalemate, or always end the same. Having a therapist to guide these conversations can help these conflicts become conversations... conversations where each person feels heard, understood, and supported. Conversations like these can heal old wounds, create a foundation for lasting change, and help people reconnect. Therapy is meant to help you uncover the hidden messages your emotions are trying to tell you every day.

Feeling stuck sucks. And getting unstuck can feel so daunting - impossible even. Life can often feel like it just wants to drag you down and swallow you up. But hey, listen, you've made a huge step today just by being here. I hope you reach out as I would be honored to work with you. I work with a variety of clients and issues but have found a great deal of success working with individuals struggling with anxiety and depression. I also work with individuals grappling with loss, and individuals dealing with trauma. Therapy can be hard work, for sure, but it can also be a fully edifying experience. I hope to hear from you.

"The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct" (Carl Jung). I find great joy in working with children of all ages in a therapy setting. It's an honor to me when a child chooses to trust me with their wishes, their fears, and their wonders about life. I have experience working with children individually, in hospitals, and through non-profit work in the community. Through the use of play and arts based therapies, I help to facilitate an environment where children are able to truly be themselves, express their emotions, and have the ability to create the answers they need for themselves.

How can I find a therapist in 27613?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
