Do you feel that there is a disconnect between who you are and who you present to the world? Perhaps your relationships with others, with substances, with your religion, beliefs, or culture are not what you want them to be. Maybe you're in the midst of a life transition and asking yourself hard questions about the world around you. Whatever the reason may be, my clients bravely come to therapy, seeking ways to live a more authentic life, and I join them as we find ways to do so. I believe that we all deserve to live a life that is true to who we are, and that therapy can help us to achieve that.

I love working with people who feel stuck, and who want to understand, embrace, and maximize their potential. Many of the people I work with have been frustrated with traditional talk therapy, and want a way through their depression, anxiety and trauma that is efficient and effective. Using tools like energy psychotherapy, neurofeedback, and Human Design, I help people to understand who they really are and who've they've been conditioned to be; these approaches and tools provide a road map back to the joy of their true nature.

Successful children are happy, socially competent and secure in developing age appropriate skills. They get along with their family, friends, and at school. What all parents want is to successfully launch their children as independent adults. This can be a daunting task in today's world. The time to identify and solve problems in this process is as early as possible. I offer both short-term and long-term interventions for children and the adults in their lives. I also work with adults to help you identify and change stuck patterns of thought and feeling to move ahead in life.

Have you not made the progress you would've liked in standard weekly therapy? You know where your issues lie, but you just haven't been able to move past them. What if you could feel lighter, more content, and more confident? You may be a good fit for EMDR and IFS therapy if: You're experiencing recurring themes, insecurities, or narratives in your life, your past casts a shadow on your daily life and relationships, you're eager to dive deeper and don't want to spend years in talk therapy. You're ready for big change and deep, intentional work.

Pregnancy and the first few months, even the first year, post-delivery can be really hard. These months can be filled with such joy and anticipation, but can also be accompanied by stress and uncertainty. During pregnancy, women often struggle with anxiety about their baby, their changing bodies, and their upcoming delivery. Post-delivery, women and their partners may continue to have worries about their health, their new roles as parents, and how to care for their baby in addition to managing other life stressors. One can need additional support as they try to navigate and adjust to the journey of pregnancy or new parenthood.

I meet with adults for both individual therapy and marital/couple therapy. I see therapy as a way to become more aware of yourself and your interactions with the world; to update anachronistic self-concepts and to develop perspective on the trajectory of your life. When feeling accepted, we can shine a light on some of the darker corners of our lives, express novel thoughts and feelings, and become more fully and more comfortably human. For those familiar with the language, my approach can perhaps be characterized as psychodynamically informed humanistic therapy. Please go to www.daviddonlon.com for more information.

If any of the following sounds familiar, let's talk about how we can work together:
Feeling defeated or like you're in a fight with feelings. Persistent wondering about what it all means. Uncertainty of purpose. Being "in your head" a lot. And this may be showing up as stress, depression, anxiety, or constant distraction to numb or drown it all out. Perhaps you've got trauma, and it isn't letting you live your life like you want to.
This is the stuff I love talking about and engaging with. As a social worker (and former attorney), my work has been dedicated to helping people heal and face these sorts of challenges.

There is a lot happening in the larger world and in your daily life. This is a safe space for that. If you are having trouble: making decisions, or anxious most of the time, or unhappy with your circumstances or relationships, or making a life transition, or considering who you want to be, I am here to support you and hold space for your feelings and thoughts. Together, we will explore and examine themes of circumstances, control, identity, culture, and goals. There is no wrong topic for therapy.

My approach is simple: come as you are. I value a therapeutic relationship built on being real, honest, and genuine. We’ll combine compassion with a “let’s do the work” energy to ensure you feel welcomed, seen, and ready to grow.

You might feel overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, or painful experiences that are hard to carry alone. Maybe you’ve spent years trying to meet expectations, explaining who you are, or feeling like you don’t quite belong. Many of the people I work with are navigating questions about identity, relationships, culture, or self-worth while making sense of trauma, family conflict, or religious harm. Often, they are searching for a space where they can be fully themselves without judgment, a place where they don’t have to shrink, hide parts of who they are, or translate their experiences just to be understood.

Something in your life isn't working, but it's difficult to explain exactly why. You may feel anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected or caught in patterns that repeat despite your best efforts to change them. You may be a parent seeking help for your child. Whatever brings you here, I believe there is meaning behind what you are experiencing. Symptoms often make sense when understood in the context of our lives, relationships and experiences. Together, we'll make sense of what is happening beneath the surface so that you can move toward greater freedom and possibility and into a life that feels more fully your own.

Making the decision to begin therapy can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. I offer EMDR, ACT, and IFS to help adults process the past, reconnect with themselves, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
Many of us find ourselves stuck in deep-rooted patterns that may have once been helpful or protective, but no longer serve us. These patterns can make it hard to feel present, connected, or aligned with the life we want to live. Pain and discomfort are part of being human but with the right support, healing is possible.
