Despite best efforts, the clients I work with find themselves frustrated, overwhelmed, or disheartened when trying to achieve goals, grieving a loss or navigating life’s unique challenges. They want to heal; disrupt patterns within themselves; or in relationships. Typically, they are open to the idea of “awakening” & want to feel more grounded within themselves & explore how they interact with the world. Through the lens of authentic compassion, they’re awakening or questioning our cultural conditioning that reinforces the idea that we are not enough. I create a genuine space for you to come as you are.

Are you searching for a way to feel better, to feel good enough? Maybe you are longing to love and accept yourself, to feel secure within yourself? You might realize that work, relationships, and/or overindulging in food or alcohol is not doing the trick. Dealing with ongoing family issues, sadness from loss, comparing yourself to your friends, and always putting yourself last might be overwhelming. Maybe you hope to make peace with your past traumas and be able to move forward freely. Are you drawn toward the mind-body-spirit healing approach and ready to get to the root of your trauma and emotional pain?

Have you ever wondered if other people’s lives were as chaotic as yours? Were other people’s families as stressful as yours? Or, do you ever wonder if you are “just losing your mind?” I understand that life is messy and we, as humans, are messy too. Figuring out how to navigate life is serious business, and social media portrayals of “having the perfect life” do not help us tone down the negative self-talk that tends to jumble our thoughts. Would you like to pause all the static in your mind? Would you like to learn strategies to improve your mood, lessen your stress, and create “a life worth living?”

Wondering what is next? How you got where you are? Who you are? Afraid you've missed opportunities or what you hoped for is passing by? I work with people looking for authenticity and fulfillment, offering a chance to question openly and explore who you are and what you really love. Understanding the inevitability of change and how to navigate through sometimes unthinkable circumstances can feel overwhelming. I love working together with clients to help them understand and manage these deep emotions--and to realize that they do have the courage to face what is ahead and the ability to manage their own lives.

I support parents who are feeling overwhelmed, tired, and frustrated by their children's behavior. My clients feel like they have tried everything - read books, listened to podcasts, and still they are shocked by their child's, tween's, or teen's behaviors. At their wit's end, my clients find that they default to yelling, taking devices, play dates, and outings away from their child in an effort for their child to behave. Some of my clients are in therapy and their therapist has encouraged them to seek out parenting support.

January 2024: I have limited openings for new patients. You are welcome to contact me and I will respond about scheduling a consultation as I am able and will discuss your care needs and therapy goals. I have dedicated my 20 year long career to the premise that we must know what is possible and have capacity to do it before we can be free to choose. During my academic studies in Psychology, Philosophy, Religion, and Social Work I was introduced to the intersections of Queer and Gender theories and became ignited with the framework of knowledge, power, control, and paths to liberation, all of which continue to inform my practice.

I resonate with women who feel called towards a journey of self exploration. Perhaps they may be navigating their inner seasons, sensing something ancient and sacred in their bones guiding them towards deeper healing work. Maybe they also crave a sense of belonging among other likeminded people, and have a strong relationship with nature. I love the power of presence and connection with community and engaging in nourishing, playful, and creative practices with others. My spiritual connection with Earth is important to me and I hope to help others connect with nature through their experiences and integration practices.

I am currently accepting new clients, and I always respond within 24 hours. I partner with adults of all ages who are seeking psychotherapy within a setting that’s able to hold the fullness of who they are and the larger arc of their path. Located on Pickards Mountain at the edge of Chapel Hill, I describe my approach as somatic, depth-oriented, and mindfulness-based. Another term I use is soulcentric. Why? Because the word soul points to the deeper dimensions of one’s life. It evokes the rich, sometimes veiled currents running through our lives and orients us toward our ever-unfolding authenticity and path.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
