On the outside, you put on a mask showing everyone you have a great life. You are dependable, hardworking, and happy. But on the inside, you feel lost, hopeless, and never good enough. You are seen as withdrawn, anxious, lazy, angry, unreliable, or any number of other things. Except you aren’t! You just cannot get a handle on your brain. You have frequent thoughts that things will never get better. You spend every day trying to keep it together, but you just cannot do it anymore. You don’t have to feel this way.

Life can be viewed as a series of successes and disappointments. We often have people who support us in the highs but may not know how to help us through the lows. I would be honored to be that person for you! While we cannot be perfect, we can be healthy in mind, body, and spirit! I believe that God can use every event, mistake, achievement, frustration, setback and triumph to help us prosper and be well.

Are you a successful, gifted adult who has all the boxes checked yet still wonders, "Is there more to life?" Have you been feeling like you need to make a change but you're not quite sure where or how to start? It can be hard to trust that there's someone out there who could really "get" you and help you create the dream life you truly desire. Flourishing is the concept of living life with purpose, meaning, connection, and vibrant well-being. You may not be struggling with mental illness, per se, but you may be languishing. And that can feel particularly frustrating because it just feels like living in the "blah" zone day after day.

The therapy room is a place that is emotionally safe. It is a space free of judgment. Working with clients who are ready to show up for themselves authentically is a benefit for me being a therapist. No matter how, what or who causes our ‘wounds’, it is our responsibility to be intentional and work towards healing.

Psychotherapy is an opportunity for you to be deeply listened to in an environment of acceptance and respect. My approach is founded in western psychology layered with the wisdom and practices of yoga, shamanism and Intentional Creativity. A typical therapy session will feel like a very intentional conversation rooted in inquiry, the purpose of which is to support you to move past brain/mind, the terrain that you already know, into a deeper space of insight and intuition. Through our work you will move more deeply into the fullness of your being and experience vitality and connection with life and love.

We all learn to adapt to our environment early in life. We may then find ourselves "stuck" in these adaptations later in life, trying to gain control over what happened to us. I help those suffering with relationship difficulties, anxiety and depression, complex trauma, and who are seeking deeper knowledge of themselves to break free of old wounds and patterns. Through a psychodynamic and relational approach, we will together explore your thoughts, feelings, and relationships with others so that you may build a more fulfilling and freeing life.

Greetings! If you're here then you're likely looking for help, or at least curious about talking to someone about what burdens you. Know that you need not carry your burdens alone, and it would be my privilege and honor to join you on your journey. We will work together to provide you with a safe place to be fully seen and truly known. Perhaps that ignites a shred of hope within you, or dread, or maybe both! The journey towards real change may involve discomfort, but it can be life-giving. Good things are often achieved through hardship.

I help couples heal and deepen their relationships. Lots of of things can cause conflict and leave us feeling helpless to stop it. Issues like addiction, infidelity, parenting disagreements, money, and past trauma can cause hurt and push people apart. Our relationships are supposed to be refuges of safety and security; we expect to be able to count on one another. When we get stuck and can't connect with our partners, it threatens us to our very core. We feel trapped, hurt, scared, angry, and confused. The more we fight, the further we get from where we want to be. I want you to know it's not over yet.

I treat clients who have a history of trauma and/or eating concerns. Maybe this resonates with you. Perhaps your trauma manifested in maladaptive behaviors, like cutting, an eating disorder, or risk behaviors. You have lost the ability to tune into your body and need help reconnecting with your body's wisdom. Using mindfulness, EMDR, and other body-based interventions, I can help you process trauma and develop healthy coping skills to replace the ones that cause you pain.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
