My passion as a Licensed Professional Counselor is to meet people where they are in their lives and try to help them make sense of it. Let's face it, life can be a mess sometimes. One moment, life can be happy, upbeat, positive, balanced. The next moment, you may feel your sinking in a never-ending quicksand or feeling knocked over by a rogue wave of emotions and problems feeling too great to solve. We all are unique individuals with a wide range of experiences, both positive and negative. Flexibility and adaptability are how I work to adjust as a Therapist to help find a treatment plan and other strategies for clients.

Hello! My name is Tara Johnson, LPC, and I am a graduate of Walden University with my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling. In my educational and clinical journey, I have found the Cognitive-Behavioral approach to be of great assistance; however, I am also aware that everyone is unique thereby requiring the addition of other therapies as warranted in my “mental health toolbox”. All theories incorporate an understanding of the desire to change one’s approach to a situation even if the situation continues to exist, let me assist you in the process.

It is much harder for us to show kindness and compassion than it is to judge ourselves because we are not strong enough to push through everything with a smile. I hope to assist you with learning how to extend the kindness you give to others to yourself. I have experience with individuals across the lifespan experiencing significant emotional distress and with those struggling with transitioning between stages of life. I focus on ambiguous grief to assist anyone struggling to identify and establish the role they want to have in their own lives and create sustainable change.

Therapy is a place where we are allowed to be raw, imperfect, vulnerable humans in a society that expects us to be flawlessly composed. I focus my practice on personal power and can provide you with tools to work on whatever is causing your stress, whether that's in the present, past, or future. My goal in counseling is to be a source of unconditional support while we step back and explore the ways in which social forces impact(ed) the ways you understand yourself and the world. I firmly believe knowing oneself as a whole person is a crucial step to substantial and sustainable change and know we can find solutions to help you grow.
