What I'm especially good at is helping people get clarity about their relationships and their boundaries. This means I work well with individuals in difficult marriages, children and parents trying to establish adult bonds, codependent people, and with anyone who wants warmer, happier, more peaceful interactions in their life. If you can't figure out why your relationships go off the rails, I can help. I like to work with adults, teens and parents, couples, minor-attracted persons (pedophiles), LGBTQ folks and people who don't know why they feel bad.

I view therapy as a joint venture in healing and growth and an interactive process that provides possibilities for change and hope. Everyone's situation and experiences are unique. Together we will explore your presenting issues and concerns to meet your goals. In my work, I utilize cognitive behavioral, solution oriented, trauma focused and humanistic approaches. I also believe that our mind and body are closely integrated, and greater awareness and understanding of the mind-body connection and related practices like mindfulness, can help a person more effectively cope with stress, trauma, depression, etc.

The decision to begin/return to therapy can be complicated. Some believe they should be able to "fix" problems independently, and place undue blame on themselves for being stuck in cycles of depression/anxiety, disordered eating, malfunctioning relationships, self-harm, etc. Through my work as a Clinical Psychologist, I've come to believe that it takes courage to recognize that aspects of one's life aren't working, and to seek support in making positive changes. During therapy, I work with clients to identify areas of life they'd like to change, and together, we explore past experiences that may have contributed to current struggles.

People in distress are often wary of talking to someone who is a stranger. The first visit is generally fraught with anxiety. I am adept at teasing out the issues and helping a person (of any age) feel comfortable and understood. I expect that many clients will come to my office with a certain amount of ambivalence about engaging in psychotherapy. Generally, by the time they leave after the first visit, they are eager to return having felt a sense of relief and hope that they are going to be understood and "heard" in a unique way.

Change is hard. The emotions that arise can be painful to face and sometimes feel as if they keep us from moving forward. These changes are what I call the "difficult bumps" or "nodes" in life. I think of it this way: When the "nodes" of the cut stem of a plant are nourished with water they grow into roots. The stem transforms into a thriving plant, its roots anchoring it solidly to the ground. I help clients to recognize their "bumps" as an opportunity to transform pain into new roots of empowerment, self-worth, and self-appreciation.

It’s not always easy to know when to seek help—but if your child is feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or struggling day-to-day, having a conversation can be a helpful way to sort through concerns and explore next steps. I’m a licensed school psychologist with experience supporting children and teens in both public and private settings with social, emotional, and learning challenges. Many parents I work with aren’t sure if what their child is going through is “serious enough”—you don’t have to figure that out alone. Please send me a message to schedule a free initial phone consultation.

My ideal clients are children, teens, and adults seeking clarity about how their minds work. They may be struggling with attention, learning, memory, or feeling “different” and want answers that make sense of their experiences. Many have been misunderstood or misdiagnosed before. They’re looking for insight, validation, and a clear plan to move forward—so they can better understand themselves and thrive at home, school, or work.
