I am a practicing clinical psychologist for over 40 years. My major focus is to help clients solve their " problems in living." My approach is developmental and research based. We pass through many transitions over the course of our lives that may present emotional and behavioral challenges at each stage of life. My treatment approach is eclectic i.e a tapestry of psychoanalytic, humanistic, behavioral and existential. Successful treatment outcomes often depend on a combination of approaches to resolve problems. Above all, I try to ensure that all therapy occurs in a positive, safe, supportive and confidential environment.

You're a good person whose had some bad luck and bad things happen to them. It's so unfair! You feel you're "not enough and unlovable," and don't understand your dating patterns or why you can't find your person. You're stressed, trapped, and in a rut. Life's "good moments" seem SO fleeting! Life is a big loop of work, gym, home, sleep, and, honestly, you're exhausted. OR maybe you're an athlete dealing with performance anxiety, injury, or an identity shift post-retirement. You lost your confidence, haven't been in flow, feel anxious to perform or mess up, and aren't sure how to go through life as an athlete or ex-athlete anymore.

"The truth will set you free" is apt in describing the key to mental health, but many of us need help before we can handle the truth. Anxiety, anger, depression, relationship issues and addictions are signs of our mind's defenses obscuring our truth. I support clients wanting to change by helping them identify their truths, increase coping skills and build self-awareness so that they have the power to transform their lives into what they are meant to be.

Life is a journey, and I want to help you enjoy that journey. Sometimes we face obstacles along the way— racing thoughts, challenging memories, irritability, relationship conflict, daily stress. Whatever it may be, you don’t have to struggle alone. I strive to create an environment where you are free to express your inner world and experiences in a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental space.

If you feel like you “have it all,” but you can’t shake this nagging feeling that something is missing or feel overwhelmed trying to manage your multiple roles (parent, spouse, partner, friend, co-worker), I can help. I don't practice one-size-fits-all therapy. I’ll follow your lead and use the creative process as a guide to connect with your thoughts and feelings. If you are feeling lost, unhappy or dissatisfied with life, the right help is out there. Break downs in our emotional wellbeing happen within interpersonal bonds and can be healed in the container of our therapeutic relationship. Being held in the space of understanding, warmth and curiosity, we can heal shame from the past and access connection in the present. Our deepest wounds and the protections we carry around them are passed on from our family, previous generations, and life's losses and heartaches. They don't go away on their own, but they transform in the light of awareness and acceptance.

Hello, I specialize in: 1. sleep disorders, particularly insomnia 2. trauma (PTSD and developmental) 3. anxiety/depression and life transitions 4. Adult ADHD 5. Brain injury/concussion and adjustment to chronic illnesses. Insomnia can be treated effectively w/ a short course of behavioral therapy (CBT-I, the modality recommended by the American College of Physicians). I maximize the effectiveness of psychotherapy by helping people create a new felt experience. This is the path to lasting change because it shifts processing at the level of your “emotional brain,” which drives your life, often without your awareness, but does not

I have extensive training and decades of experience providing couples therapy. Whether you're in crisis or just need a tune-up, I can help. Infidelity, poor communication, lack of intimacy, living as roommates, recycling the same fights, and "I don't want to keep living this way" are some of the reasons people work with me. I'm a certified discernment counselor and help couples gain clarity about whether divorce or counseling is the best path. Weekend intensives are a good option for couples who want accelerated results. I also see individuals who need help with depression, anxiety, and parenting young adults who are struggling.

It's not often people get to say how much they enjoy their work, but I do. As the co-founder of Insight Into Action Therapy, I get to meet fascinating people and assist them as they navigate through tough times. I do so through individual and family therapy. In addition, I facilitate several groups, primarily our Dual Diagnosis Recovery Program which is designed to help individuals with co-occuring substance abuse and mental health problems. Besides therapy, I provide community educations and lectures on various topics impacting individuals and the society as a whole.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
