I believe that in this hectic world our children benefit from additional sources of support. I offer this support to children and their families. I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach, and recognize the parent as being "the expert" on their child. I provide individual and group counseling services as well as psychological evaluations.

My clients come to me with a wide variety of concerns related to anxiety, depression, confusion, low self-esteem, life transitions and adjustments, impulsive behaviors (e.g., substance use, binge eating, self-harm), etc. There is no problem too big or too small, and you are brave for considering therapy. No matter what you are searching for, I believe change is possible and therapy can help.

Sometimes, it’s about where to start. How will you talk to this stranger – or why would you? My goal is to provide a safe place to talk and to not be a stranger. I often do 15-minute phone chats so you can “pre-meet” me and get that initial edge out of the way. I want to help you to (re)discover your own voice, to understand your reactions, to recover a more daring, loving self – someone who is more and not less. I won’t be a stranger for long because I’ve journeyed on similar paths.

It’s 3 a.m., and you’re staring at the ceiling again. Your chest feels tight, the silence feels deafening, and the same thoughts keep looping: “Why am I like this? Why can’t I just figure it out?” If you’ve tried traditional therapy before and still feel stuck, it’s NOT because you’re not trying hard enough, it’s because simply talking about it over and over isn’t enough. I’m a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, and I work with people who have tried it all. Together we'll go deeper, to the root of what’s been holding you back. We'll rewire your mind, and break the patterns keeping you stuck, so you can finally move forward.

“My style of therapy draws from Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment therapy/mindfulness. My passion is for learning your story and working alongside you to find the solutions that work for you. I’m here to help you examine what you’ve already lived through and find the path forward. In my work with people with trauma I’ve learned that we often need the reminder – no matter what you have struggled with; you are a survivor and that needs to be brought to light. Keeping that in mind, I am guided by the client towards the goals that they feel are necessary for their treatment.”

Developing a relationship with a compassionate, skilled therapist who can help you be present with current life stressors or past traumas, can be an important part of healing. In my practice I work with adults and adolescents with a variety of issues but specialize in issues related to sexual trauma (childhood or adult), childhood emotional/physical abuse, domestic violence, lack of parental attunement, and growing up in a home where alcohol and drugs were abused. I also work with couples who are experiencing challenges in communication, connection and how past trauma effects this. I provide clinical supervision to therapists.

You’re the one people lean on. You get things done, hold it all together, and from the outside it looks like you’re “fine.” But inside, you’re exhausted from overthinking, old wounds that won’t stay in the past, and feeling like you have to be strong all the time. As a trauma-informed therapist I specialize in working with adults who are juggling a lot: career, family, faith and values, relationships, and the impact of childhood and relational trauma. Naming and shifting harsh inner narratives, understanding your nervous system and triggers, tending to younger parts of you that feel abandoned or not enough.

Often when we reach out for counseling, it’s because something in life has become heavy or overwhelming. You might be struggling to find a way forward, but know deep down that something needs to change. If that’s where you are right now, I want you to know you’re not alone. My name is Omy Golden, and I help adults create healing in their lives. This often means addressing past traumas and relationship wounds that make it hard to show up fully as your authentic self. Through curiosity, gentleness, and acceptance, I support clients in discovering their own meaningful path through life’s challenges.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
