Everyone deserves a journey of self-healing and self-discovery. In fact, allowing yourself to blossom is the avenue to experiencing self-love and meaningful connections with others. I have worked in the field of mental health for over 15 years, but started researching and seeking methods of healing since my early teens. I attended the University of California, San Diego, followed by Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, studying Clinical Psychology, Critical Gender Studies, and Transpersonal Psychology.

Welcome! You are taking a brave step toward healing by coming here. I work with individuals of diverse identities with any amount of desire to understand their true selves. We all experience shades of anxiety and depression, some stronger than others. Some folks want change through learning skills. Others appreciate an accepting, safe space that challenges them while also providing objectivity and empathetic support. Some are still unsure why they're even thinking about starting therapy, and yet still have the willingness to show up. Most of the time, it's a mixture of all 3.

We are living in challenging times. Children and parents need support to get through issues such as divorce, loss of a loved one, illness of a family member, school pressures, adolescent conflict, adult children moving back into the home and bullying. Within the context of family therapy, I work with children ages three through the young adult years. I am a trained play therapist and able to help children and adolescents express their feelings and deep emotions. I am able to work, both individually with family members and in family therapy, to support change and growth for the entire family.

My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy in a time of need. They might be experiencing anxiety due to life changes and transitions or they might be experiencing symptoms of anxiety for the first time and be concerne as to where the anxiety came from. The client might be processing loss or grief from a loved one or past friendships and or relationships. My ideal client will have needs such as needing to identify coping skills to get through life stressors, assistance with reaching goals. As a therapist I would be able to provide the client with a objective perspective to bounce their ideas and situations off of.

I have been a therapist for over 30 years, seeing individuals, couples, and families. My goal as a therapist is to connect with what you're going through so that I can help you understand and empower yourself more completely. Managing transitions and huge life shifts can create feelings of anxiety and loss of identity - like having the rug pulled out from under us. Despite living in unpredictable times, we can still find our strength and resilience. There is a way to feel safe while being in touch with your natural vulnerability.

Therapy can generate greater meaning in your life, nourish a sense of connection, and help transform unhealthy patterns. Whether you seek help with specific concerns or you simply want to better understand yourself, I create a supportive space in which we can think together about your relationships and experiences. My style as a therapist tends to be warm, engaged, and curious. I encourage a focus both on a deeper exploration of the roots of your distress and on what can be changed in the present to help you feel better.

So often we may find ourselves caught in patterns of busying, avoiding, and distraction only to find ourselves anxious, down, exhausted, and stuck. Individual therapy is carved out time for yourself where you can notice habitual patterns, design new thoughts and attitudes, cultivate self-compassion, create space for healing, and access your own wisdom and strength that resides in you. I use a multifaceted approach that promotes a sense of curiosity and self-awareness. I draw from cognitive-behavioral, trauma-informed, and body and mindfulness-based models.

Welcome. I see individual therapy as a process of joining someone in dealing with difficult situations or problems. I will listen carefully and strive to provide an emotionally safe and nonjudgmental space to explore and work through your concerns. Experiencing a genuine connection in a relaxed and non-stigmatizing atmosphere is an important part of therapy, and we can see if we are a "good match" to work together.

Picture us sitting face to face, wondering if we're a good match. To me, you're not just a typical client, but a unique individual with a rich story waiting to be uncovered. When I began seeing a therapist, I realized just how much I needed an outlet to process hardships in my life and to feel genuinely heard, and this is exactly what I want to provide to clients who come to see me. As I have advanced in my own self-discovery and identity exploration, I have become interested in helping others in the LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent (specifically Autism & ADHD), and disability communities on their own journeys. My approach to therapy is helping guide you to bountiful self-compassion, exploring boundaries, and discovering your own passions.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
