Navigating the complexities of the human experience can be hard and confusing. Despite our best efforts to construct a life aligned with our dreams and aspirations, we often find ourselves confronted by waves of pain, anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, stress, and guilt. In the midst of these struggles, it's natural to question ourselves and our behaviors, wondering, “What's wrong with me?” We feel exhausted as we desperately try to change ourselves, seeking any form of relief from the relentless tide of inner turmoil, yet it seems that nothing we do brings the desired results.

Are you feeling stuck? Do you need to drop into greater ease or “grounding”, but you keep getting “triggered” and respond in your old ways? Have you tried meditation or yoga, yet feel something is missing? Have you sensed true “flow” and playfulness in your interactions with others or within yourself, but, sadly, it is just not consistent? Educators, do seek being that teacher who moved you into this profession? Have you spent time learning how to develop your parenting and general relationship skills, but you keep reverting to prior patterns of reactivity? If so, try something new with me.

Therapy is not a long-term, drawn-out process. Some individuals may need extensive therapy, but most need help at particular times of crisis or when they realize that they need another perspective on themselves or their relationships with their husband or wife, children, family, co-workers, or friends. My approach begins with the here and now, and I assist clients in developing concrete ways to overcome issues standing in their way. My belief echoes the old saying, "You are not the problem; the problem is the problem.

Opening up to a complete stranger is really fucking uncomfortable. I've been there. The first time I went to therapy I did not think talking about my feelings would help. Up until this moment, you've probably depended on your inner circle for constant reassurance and validation. And sure, we all love a good vent sesh, but let's be real, you're not here for a yes-person. You crave a new perspective, genuine feedback. Someone who's not afraid to push back, keep you on track, and give it to you straight, no BS. You want to make real, long-lasting changes in your life.

We understand that life's struggles can present in many different ways and that everyone has a unique story that deserves to be heard. Our focus is on building a safe, non-judgmental space where you can be seen, accepted, and helped to better understand yourself, how you got to where you are, how to heal what needs to be healed, and how to get to a better place. We want to help people better cope with the present, understand their past, improve their relationship with themselves and with others, and to grow into the most authentic person they can be. Sometimes this work can feel hard, and we can walk with you and support you.

Having issues with love, sex, or intimacy? We should talk.
Whether you're currently alone or in a relationship, love, sex, and intimacy are central and powerful sources of joy and satisfaction in our lives--so when it's not working, the pain and frustration can be just as powerful..
If every conversation turns into an argument, we should talk. If you want to feel connected again, and reignite feelings that have somehow gotten lost over time, we should talk. If you have concerns about your sexual interests, behavior, or relationships, we should talk. Call us. We can help. :)

I am a relational therapist who emphasizes a social justice approach to my work. I believe that to truly, deeply understand ourselves, we must look at the larger context within which we operate. In the therapy room, I strive to support you as you explore your own history and identity with curiosity, warmth, and care. I apply a trauma-informed lens to provide affirming care, as I believe that a respectful, supportive relationship is a key aspect of facilitating growth and self-acceptance. I am especially effective at working with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and ASD, alongside life transitions and gender and sexuality explorations.

I strive to create an authentic and safe space through our relationship to make exploring your inner world possible, especially since therapy can be scary and vulnerable. You may be interested in accessing therapy to challenge, explore, and/or question aspects of yourself. While I am honored to witness and join you in this process, I believe that all internal and external forces over the course of our life shape who we are and how we navigate the world. Because of this, I really emphasize non-judgmental curiosity to better understand yourself in a compassionate way, especially if shame, embarrassment, and vulnerability arise.

The stigma behind psychotherapy is based on the notion that somehow asking for help and working with a professional means that one is weak. Ironically, this could not be further from the truth. Making the decision to look at your story and explore how patterns within it have impacted your goals, relationships, losses, parenting, work and outlook is profoundly difficult to do. It is looking at ourselves with the commitment to not look away until we have developed tools to build futures that give us joy and magnify our strengths. All while now knowing how to address our challenges more effectively.

When you’re looking for a therapist, one of the most important things is finding someone with whom you can develop a safe, healthy, and trusting relationship. I believe that it is in the context of this kind of relationship, that healing, growth, and learning occur. I’ve had a rich and varied career working as a psychologist and training doctoral students in a range of settings including an inpatient hospital, a clinic for families living with HIV, in community mental health clinics, and in private practice.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
