It is completely normal for parents to feel overwhelmed and anxious when their child is struggling with mental, emotional, or social challenges. The process of starting therapy can be intimidating, filled with worries about finding the "right" type of support and entrusting your vulnerable child to a stranger, all while desperately hoping for a resolution.

As a licensed clinical social worker I offer a safe space where you can safely talk about your experiences and feelings. I want to help you trust your own intuition as you talk about your life and make decisions about the direction of it. I am accepting, caring, and supportive. I believe in cultural humility which allows the individual to teach me about their self identity to include their ethnicity, spirituality, sexual identity, and other aspects of their cultural.

You were fine...and then life happened. Death, divorce, children, retirement, the relationship - whatever it was for you, it turned your world upside down. While you used to pride yourself in "having it together," now you feel lost, depressed, overwhelmed and helpless. You are angry at yourself and others because you can't "move on." All you want to do is feel like "YOU" again, but you secretly wonder if that's even possible. It is possible. I can help you cope with the painful parts of life and feel in control again.

I have a special interest in the family system and how that affects each individual. This includes psychotherapeutic treatment of couples, parents and their children. My goal going into each session with my clients is to help them feel, think and act more positively and have an overall improved quality of life than when they originally came to see me. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important things when engaging in the counseling process which means my primary focus is to aid my clients in handling stress and daily challenges. It can be difficult but with my support it is absolutely attainable.

Hi, I’m so glad you’re here. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming—kind of like staring at a never-ending to-do list or trying to pick something on Netflix (why are there so many options?). You don’t have to figure it all out on your own. That’s where I come in. My job is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and maybe even able to laugh a little—because healing doesn’t always have to be heavy. Your job? Simply show up as you are. Messy, anxious, unsure, curious—whatever you’re carrying is welcome here.

I treat clients with anxiety-based disorders, ranging from OCD or panic disorders to generalized anxiety. Additionally, general life stressors, such as client's enrolled in college, is an area that I feel competent in and passionate about. An ideal client would be aware of their challenges and motivated to do the work that therapy often requires. I enjoy working with clients who have goals of increasing their overall life satisfaction, whether through learning skills such as self-regulation techniques or goals of learning about symptoms to reduce these symptoms and increase overall life satisfaction.

Hello and welcome! I am licensed to provide services in PA, MA,NJ, & OH. My area of expertise is working with adults as they navigate grief and loss experiences. I specialize in supporting individuals after sudden/unexpected death including SUD related death or loss of a child of any age. A loss does not require death. Living losses may encompass a major life transition that involves a shift in identity like new parenthood, a career change, or the end of a significant relationship. Grief is not linear and there is no right or wrong way to grieve; however, it is helpful to have guidance to validate and normalize your experiences.

I work primarily from a Relational perspective, seeing the relationship between client and therapist as the most significant vehicle for change. If you come willing to work on whatever is troubling you, we will be successful. I include other theoretical perspectives, including Sytems, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, Insight-Oriented to name a few. As we get to know each other we will develop a process that will best fit you and your needs. I understand that feeling comfortable with your therapist is essential, so I'll do my best to help you find someone if our fit doesn't feel right.

The narratives we use to understand our lives- who we are, what we're capable of, what has happened to us- can be immensely powerful. Do you feel stuck in yours? Do you need help thinking of your life in a new way? I will work to create an open space where you can better understand who you are and what you need. Cognitive behavior therapy can help you examine the core beliefs that organize your experience and complicate, interrogate, or rewrite them.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
