Hi there! You and I both know that life can be difficult, and none of us are immune to its challenges. At some point, we all face moments of struggle, pain, and brokenness. But you don't have to navigate those moments alone! Maybe you are walking through a difficult moment in your life right now. Maybe you feel stuck with unwanted thought, memories, habits or feelings. I would love to come alongside you to help you navigate growth during this season. We can work together to determine where you want to be and how we can get you there. No more doing it all on your own.

Many people experience points in their lives where they feel stuck, challenged, inadequate, and/or like they are unsure how they can continue on with living. One thing that people have in common is that we desire to be able to live our best lives and up to our fullest potential. When conditions and circumstances in life make this difficult, such as: depression, anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, LGBTQ+ challenges, and trauma, it can feel like there is no clear path to living up to our fullest potential.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the services I offer. Counseling can be a bit intimidating, but my role is to guide you on a journey at a pace determined by you. I ask my clients....1. What do you want or need in your life and in the future? 2. In what time frame? 3. What percentage are you dedicated to working on change, even it feels uncomfortable? 4. What motivates you?

I received my master’s degree in counseling in 2011 and have been working as a counselor in higher education since then. I started providing on-line counseling more than 5 years ago and got to perfect that skill over the pandemic. I am the father of three beautiful, intelligent, well adjusted, usually content, sometimes happy, young adults and I hold my job in helping them become good humans as my most valued and important purpose in my existence.

If you are an adult, and struggling with anxiety or depression, the first step is reaching out for support. Therapy is about identifying the behaviors that are not helping us, and learning to make small changes that help to create happiness and content.

Inner peace is hard to achieve. Stress, trauma, impulses, compulsions, anger, anxiety, grief, and much more, can stand in the way of reaching it. It could be the reason you get a full nights sleep, but wake up exhausted. It could be why a full days work is no problem, but when you have a moment to yourself, you can't unwind. Together, we'll learn what's under the surface and show you how to find the true person that you know you really are.

Hey, Hi, I'm Fig—I'm a witchy, disabled, neurospicy, agender, queerdo who also happens to be a therapist. I might be a good fit for you if you're interested in processing relationship trauma/abuse, processing sexual trauma, understanding health relationship building & communication (in monogamous or ENM/polyamorous relationships), are looking to explore kink dynamics or gender & sexuality, are looking to process grief, understand your neurodiversity better, or just need someone to talk to who might just "get" it. I am here to walk with you as you reconnect with your body, your voice, and your resilience.

Having to navigate responsibilities like work, family, friends, partners, parenthood, and grief makes it impossible to avoid distressing moments in life. Some of those moments may be in the "distant past" but feels as though we are experiencing them in real time. Others could be a recent as yesterday, but have completely shattered our sense of self. However, what if I told you that you already possess everything you need to fight those battles AND win them? By utilizing every part of who you are, you can become who you were always meant to be! My goal in therapy is to help you elevate your resilience and reclaim your identity.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
