These days, many of the people with whom I form a therapeutic relationship are those who have been unsatisfied with prior therapy efforts. In addition, I often work with mental health and medical professionals and their families, as well as persons employed in academia. That said, I enjoy sorting out all sorts of relationship difficulties and the underlying personality issues. In terms of patient populations, I work with individual adults and couples, upset teens and young adults. I am a fully trained psychoanalyst, as well, so I am comfortable with very intimate work, often using the couch. Commitment is a two-way street.
A word about couple therapy: Several callers have asked about how I work with couples. Generally, I see couples for double sessions, and perhaps less often than once weekly, so that we can stay within your therapy budget. My typical evaluation four sessions, after which I make recommendations about how I can best provide help.
Generally, my patients obtain their own reimbursement from their insurance companies, which consider me an "out-of-network provider." The only exception to this is that I participate with Highmark, who consider me an "enhanced specialist."
