What I love about therapy is when I see that light bulb go on over someone's head. Discovering something from a new point of view, healing an old wound. Like a midwife, I work with the client to create the conditions for them to heal themselves. Some of my clients come for treatment of trauma, or for other causes of distress. First we have to develop safety. Client's learn to have a relationship with their feelings. Rather than reacting, they learn to cope with their distress. Ineffective beliefs about self, born out of past pain, dissolve in the light of the client's new awareness. For some, this is done with EMDR therapy.

I imagine you are reading this because you are trying to understand your pain, and what you can do about it. You might sometimes feel empty and numb, while at other times might feel flooded with overwhelming and confusing feelings. You may have tried to make changes, but you see the same problems coming up again and again in your relationships. Maybe you long to find a sense of meaning, or to feel more fully alive. Healing will mean challenging yourself to sit with painful feelings and face your fears. It will be helpful for you to find a safe place to do this hard work. Together, we can make your healing and growth a priority.

Nobody wants to be in therapy forever. The slogan for my practice is "Less Talking, More Doing." Our sessions are active. We won't spend countless hours discussing prior traumas or re-working the same old coping skills that didn't work. You've been there, you've done that. Instead, we'll work together to make measurable changes to help you become empowered. The work we do is realistic, it is personalized, and at your own pace. My clients use worksheets, videos, meditations, podcasts, and in-session exercises to become more engaged in a lifestyle that is meaningful to them.

My approach to therapy is warm, inviting, and challenging. I value compassion and "realness" and approach my work with clients from a place of curiosity and respect. I believe the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful work to occur and work with my clients to identify what feels most important to explore and address in therapy. Our work together may involve processing and organizing difficult life experiences or memories, preparing for major life transitions, or navigating challenges relating to depression/anxiety.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the problems in your life? When life gets to be challenging, we often lose our sense of joy and hope. We might feel that we are just barely able to get ourselves through the day. You might be struggling with worry, sadness, a short fuse, concerns about a family member, the loss of a loved one or a life change. If you are overwhelmed and are not sure how to regain the life you enjoy, I hope you will give me a call.

**NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME** Maybe you thought what you're struggling with would just go away, get better with time or disappear if you ignored it long enough and it hasn't. You might be feeling sad, anxious, alone, stressed, worried, misunderstood or overwhelmed. Or you're dealing with something or someone that's really stressful. Perhaps you want something different for yourself or your son/daughter, but you're feeling lost, unsure how to do it or stuck. It may be time to talk to someone on the outside to get a clearer sense of what's going on.

I believe in the importance of relationships; the relationship you have with yourself and your relationship with others. I work with couples to improve communication, emotional/sexual intimacy, learn love languages, rebuild respect and trust, and adjust to parenthood. I work alongside individuals who are on their journey to strengthen their emotional well being, lessen anxiety, obtain insight into triggers/behaviors and unlearn old ways of thinking with new ways of being. I help individuals and couples navigate the emotions and adjustments to life transitions, such as a child, grief and loss, careers, and relationships.

This can lead to happiness, and at times, distress. Throughout our sessions, I will work with you to process through struggles within the context of your larger system and to implement lasting changes to prevent struggles from repeating.

Are you feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed with an unwanted change, unmet expectations, or a significant health diagnosis such as cancer or a chronic illness? These experiences impact how we cope and live our lives. Finding a therapist that you connect well with and where you feel comfortable is a vital part of healing. I believe that you are the expert in your life but having a space that is just yours, where you can be yourself and process your experiences (both good and bad) with the support of someone who is approachable like a friend, but trained as a professional.

My approach is gentle and direct. I know if you are coming to me, it’s possible you have been struggling with the same patterns and emotional pain for a long while and coping the best that you can. Together we can sort through what’s happening with your inner experiences, your relationships, and a world that can often feel anxiety-provoking. If you are holding painful memories or having traumatic symptoms, together we can ease your system into more relaxation so that you can experience life more fully present. From here, you can start down a path toward a more grounded sense of peace, joy, connection, and creativity.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
