We sometimes find ourselves struggling with major life changes, day-to-day stressors, and physical health issues. These can lead to depression, anxiety, panic, and/or other negative feelings that can be overwhelming and cause disruption in day-to-day functioning and in relationships. Sometimes, these situations and feelings can even trigger traumas from the past, which can lead to further dysfunction. It can be a tough decision to take the step to call a therapist, but it can also be the first step towards taking back your life.

Taking time for yourself is hard. Seeking help is even harder. I entered this field after witnessing a family member share about his time in Vietnam. Each person I talk to, no matter the topic, I am grateful that you are willing to share a piece of your life with me. I aim to be a safe place where you can set the weight of the world down for a moment, and catch your breath. I have worked in emergency mental health, debriefing with grieving families after tragically losing a loved one, and been there to be an intensive case manager once someone is learning to live with new information of a diagnosis.

Life can often be challenging. You may feel you've gotten "off track" and need some direction. You may be overwhelmed with things and don't know what to do or how to make it better. It may be starting to affect your relationships, and you don't know how to stop it. You may be wondering what's wrong with you and why this keeps happening, or whether you're depressed. Perhaps you're having panic attacks that come out of nowhere. Or maybe you seem to have developed social anxiety. Perhaps you just don't feel like yourself or aren't content with your life. You want things to be different, you just don't know how to make that happen. You might be wondering whether you're always going to feel this way. You've got a lot going for you, you've accomplished quite a bit, but it still feels like there's something missing. You're not sure what else to do. Most of us feel this way at some point in our lives. Especially when trying to handle the stress of life, relationships and the impact of certain events all at once.

I have had the pleasure of working in this field for more than 35 years and have found that no problem is too big, peace is a position of power, and change is another word for refine/revise/adapt. My favorite quote is: "You have to fall in love with your life." Counseling is a way to learn the barriers to doing this, the tools and techniques for doing so, and shifts in beliefs needed to attain the trickle down effect from this. Clients with whom I work often are seeking shifts in their life/spiritual view, focus, behaviors and coping skills.

Counseling varies depending on the personality of both the therapist and the client and the particular problems that you may be experiencing. I want to help you address the problems you hope to address. Often this includes building skills to: reduce feelings of distress, improve relationships, communication with others, and/or to resolve difficult personal issues. In order for therapy to be most successful, you will be asked to work on things we talk about both during our sessions and at home.

Everyone deserves to feel safe and supported with someone neutral, who is there to listen to your story. Some people come with clear goals while some people don't know where to start - and both are okay! My approach to therapy starts where the client is - focusing on what feels most important and meaningful to you. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches to motivate reflection and change. I am supportive, collaborative and focused on helping individuals build skills to feel confident and achieve success in their every day lives. Together, we can make sense of this wild thing called "life".

Welcome. I work with adult women who have anxiety, panic disorders, or who struggle with negative self-talk and low self-esteem. Do you feel anxious all day and you are not sure why? Do you have negative thoughts about yourself that get in the way of work, keeping relationships, and making you second guess all of your decisions? Are you not going out in public or avoiding situations because you’re scared you will have a panic attack?

Sometimes, we feel stuck and don't know what we can do to move forward. I enjoy working with people who seek greater understanding of how their moods and behaviors developed, and why their current coping strategies no longer feel useful. I work with, and welcome, people who struggled to find benefit in previous attempts at therapy, and those in need of transitioning to a new therapist. I find great value in working with people struggling to maintain their identity while juggling kids and aging parents, as well as people managing a beloved pets illness or loss. Please visit my website for more information about me and my practice.

My ideal client is a spiritually curious, heart-centered person, woman, or man who’s tired of repeating painful patterns, especially those rooted in generational trauma, people-pleasing, and family dysfunction. They’re done with surface-level fixes and are seeking a deeper path. They want a blend of grounded psychological tools and spiritual insight to break cycles, reclaim their voice, and live a life rooted in truth, worth, and soul. They’re ready to heal, rise, and embody freedom, clarity, and confidence.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
