Thank you for visiting my site. Unfortunately, I am not accepting new clients at this time. I provide treatment for adults of unresolved emotional injuries from childhood, post traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety. Therapy is directed toward understanding and replacing maladaptive ways of coping, such as addictions, disordered eating, or self-harm, with healthier ways, identifying the emotions that drive these behaviors. I also treat acute trauma in clients of all ages, that can result from accidents, emergency or on going medical care, and inter-personal or community violence.

People often say, I don't know why I do that, referring to an unfavorable behavior. This is evidence of our unconscious. We are all products of our earliest emotional conditioning. That is fine, if your parents were wonderful, loving, and understanding. For the majority of people, there was some form of negligence and/or dysfunction that occurred due to the complexities of child rearing. We tend to push away what is good for us and seek what is familiar. Unconsciously, we will repeat negative relationship patterns unless addressed.
We all are deserving and able to be the best version of ourselves.

Day to day challenges or unrepaired past hurts may cause anxiety, depression, or health issues, and can interfere with every aspect of your life. Infidelity, family discord or job issues may leave you feeling dissatisfied or trapped. I can help you develop a better understanding of yourself and others and learn more effective coping and communication skills. Doing so will help you address these issues and create more satisfying, mutually respectful relationships at work or home. For 25+ years I've witnessed profound changes in my clients. When we understand what triggers us, we become less reactive and more present. This allows for growth, peace and contentment. I work with individuals, couples and families struggling with relationships, depression, stress, and anxiety. I take a culturally sensitive approach to working with clients including couples from different backgrounds. My treatment is psychodynamic and compassion oriented. I strongly believe that people can change and relationships can improve. These are challenging times, caring for our mental health is critical.

Making the choice to begin therapy can be challenging. The task of working through your inner thoughts can seem daunting, but I would like to be on that journey with you. My approach to therapy is to allow my clients to guide their own sessions while I serve as a support. My therapeutic approach is psychodynamic and I enjoy helping people do “inner work”, which is to explore past experiences and to dig deep into their thoughts. I feel treatment should be individualized, because each person is unique in their needs.

Art therapy has a lot to offer adults and older adults who are looking to improve how they cope and adapt to difficult challenges and events. For those creative and not, art therapy is an active form of psychotherapy where you can express and process difficult issues where words fall short. If you are seeking help for depression, anxiety, pain management, grief, coping with life transitions, self-esteem/self confidence issues, or difficulty coping with medical challenges, this form of treatment can be highly effective. I also specialize in working with older adults and people affected by dementia.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
