Asking for help is not always easy, but doing so is the first step towards feeling better. Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, unhappy, or depressed can leave you with a sense of feeling lost or being emotionally out of control and scared. You are not alone. I strive to create a safe and trusting therapeutic environment to help you feel as comfortable as possible in an effort to help you move forward in reducing negative feelings, improving relationships with others or any other issues you may be struggling with.

I believe therapeutic change and progress evolve through the combination of a non-judgmental, insight oriented approach and the development of a therapeutic relationship. With self understanding we gain insight into repetitive cycles that often contribute to sadness, anxiety, and relationship conflicts. In my work with clients I place emphasis on the strength of the intuitive, centered self. Throughout my training and postdoctoral work, I have had the privilege to gain experience in a variety of settings ranging from private practice, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, a residential treatment center, and outpatient clinics.

There are hundreds of reasons why I became a counselor, but the main reason is the want to help guide clients into a better quality of life! The basis of my clinician approach is the strong belief in creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. Maintaining a safe place for clients (like you!) to be supported with genuine care and empathy is integral for me as your counselor. Together we will work towards making positive life changes, finding and utilizing your strengths, meet your therapeutic goals, and relieve your distress.

The foundation of my therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but I also incorporate other methodologies to meet the needs of each unique individual. My approach as a therapist is flexible because I understand the importance of your individuality. My goal is for my clients to feel safe and comfortable when they start therapy whether it be their first time or they have had past experiences. My style is to be interactive and engage with my clients while providing an environment that is safe, non-judgmental and supportive. I sometimes use worksheets, recommend books and phone apps to support the work we do together.

Over the past 40 years, I have helped many clients in their struggles to overcome the obstacles that interfere in their ability to achieve true happiness. Whether it be low self esteem, marital, parent/child /relationship problems or family of origin issues, I have successfully helped clients identify goals and reach them usually in a one to two year time frame. My client's have commented on my warmth, compassion and insight. I give helpful, thought provoking feedback while encouraging client's to come up with solutions and insights.

In my 30 years of practice as a psychotherapist, I continue to focus on building a trusting and collaborative relationship with my patients/clients. I believe that all good work in therapy is based upon this foundation. I approach each session with the goals of maintaining that relationship, addressing short time issues/struggles, and looking at the underlying connections to daily events and interactions. By using this 3 pronged approach, we can understand ongoing patterns that interfere with achieving the best quality and satisfaction in one's life.
