Our childhood experiences greatly inform our ability to succeed in our adult lives. My role is to listen between the words to determine the core experiences that shape our adult behavior and perspective. Our personality determines our personal reality. Once we gain awareness of the actions, beliefs, and experiences that influence our inner narrative/how we metabolize the world around us we allow space for change. I focus on healing at the root, improving self-awareness, providing tools for self-regulation, increasing levels of empathy, increasing levels of motivation, amplifying social skills, and improving leadership abilities.

I am a Core Energetics Practitioner with a private practice working with mind/body/spirit consciousness. I am on faculty at "The Institute of Core Energetics", "Nyack Living Core" and "CoreEvolution". Core Energetics, is a marriage of Body Psychotherapy and Spiritual Development. The work brings consciousness to how we block our energy and recreate defense patterns adapted in childhood that keep us limited and disempowered. Core opens us to the fullness of our life-force, grounds us in the strength and integrity, and supports us in bringing our unique gifts as we engage in the world around us.

Whether you're seeking Individual or Couple's Therapy, or Professional Coaching, the critical factors are: Do we feel comfortable together, and are you getting help that you could not otherwise get anywhere else in your life? People seek help when they're in pain. The work we do together is to find a pathway out. You must feel seen and understood. You must hear from me compassion, ideas and strategies that move you to a place you didn't think possible. Therapy works and works well so long as the person seeking help is willing work hard and the therapist or coach has the talent, skills and knowledge to inspire change.

I work primarily with people of color and queer and trans folks coping with anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues. I combine psychodynamic, relational and mindfulness styles while centering radical self-compassion. I believe that healing and liberation come in many different forms and we will work collaboratively to understand your goals and individual needs. I aim to create an open space, free of judgment, to explore thoughts and feelings you may not otherwise have a place to address. One of the first steps toward healing is being seen and heard authentically and in our work together we will begin there.

I am an LMSW providing both individual and family therapy. I work primarily with preschool-aged and school aged children, teens, and families. I utilize play and art in my sessions, but I also help my clients to develop and practice new skills where appropriate. I enjoy helping families to strengthen relationships, and I practice from an attachment perspective. Play is a child's natural way of communicating, which makes it a perfect fit for many children in therapy! I often work with older children, teens, and adults as well, and tailor my therapeutic approach to the needs of each person and family I work with.

Geeks, by traditional definition, are passionate about anthologies and characters from a variety of fictional, fantasy, and virtual formats that are sometimes niche or unpopular, creating feelings of relatedness towards avatar experiences in an often lonely life. . However, with the rise of popular media over the past several years, (e.g. Big Bang Theory, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s Avengers, Anime, etc.) self-identification as a “geek” or “nerd” has become more mainstream. We practice this type of therapy and welcome you to come and grow through the practice of Geek Therapy

How can I find a therapist in 10280?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
