It is my belief that mental illness and addiction can be treated successfully when a therapist and client have an active, open, and trusting, collaborative relationship. Sometimes an individual who is suffering needs to believe that there are solutions available for them and the chance to change. I have extensive training in working clinically with adolescents, young adults, and adults suffering from depression, anxiety, job burnout, addiction, or painful life transitions. I am a cognitive behavioral therapist and am extremely focused on helping my clients find solutions for their current problems.

If you're feeling down, anxious, or overwhelmed, it may be because managing the day-to-day minutiae of our busy schedules often leaves little space to register our emotional experiences until they hit a fever pitch. Although many of us adapt by pushing the pain into the background much of the time, these hidden disappointments, hurts, and resentments don't disappear; they grow and can fester. Creating a safe place to process this pain is vital, and can free us to realize and accomplish our goals.

I believe that in therapy, we work together to connect with your most present, wise and creative self. In our work you will experience deep and active listening, sincerity and humor from me, and a lack of judgment. Our sessions will be a safe space to both nurture your strengths and better understand and care for your vulnerabilities. In doing so, we will work together to support you in reaching your goals both inside and - most importantly - outside of the therapy office. I primarily use psychodynamic and relational frameworks to guide us towards understanding your thoughts, feelings and behaviors and to nurture the change you seek

The best version of you is not determined by other people's opinions, how much money you have, the way you look or feel, or what is going on in your life. Your value is reflected in your perspective - the personal stories that you have created and believe about yourself. There are choices in how you think about yourself, other people and situations. It may not change the situations, but it can change YOU! The miracle of seeing possibilities when you see no hope, to believe that you are so much more than your problems and pain, to understand that the biggest thing that you are missing in your life is YOU.

Often times support is needed to face the horizon ahead and to navigate the many challenges of everyday life. As a bicultural and bilingual (English/Spanish) psychologist with over 20 years of experience providing psychotherapy to adults, children, and families my goal is to assist you in finding the right path for you and/or your family. Utilizing an eclectic and collaborative approach, incorporating family systems theory as well as interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral techniques, I seek not to pathologize, but to help you reach a better understanding of yourself and others so you can thrive and not just survive.

As humans, we never stop confronting the adversities of life. Although we cannot control the ups of downs of everyday life, we can learn how to respond to and manage stress and tragedy differently than how we have done so throughout our lives in order to survive or tolerate the unbearable. Having a safe and supportive place to address past learned behaviors and coping strategies is crucial for self-healing and growth. As a nonjudgmental and empathetic therapist, I work with clients' strengths which often leaves clients feeling more empowered and with a new sense of self.

In our work together, we'll connect you to your intuition, give you space to validate your feelings and be compassionate towards yourself, and support you in moving towards living in alignment with your truest expression. Often this includes our review of past experiences so you can access a space of freedom, healing, and integration. I share mindfulness techniques and nourishing routine practices that can allow you to become a more embodied, authentic, and present version of yourself. And this process doesn't always have to be so heavy! There is always room for humor and lightness in our sessions - in fact, it's very much welcomed.

If we pay attention we can see how our emotions, thoughts, and behavioral patterns all tell a story, revealing deeper messages from within. I believe that listening to our body can help us heal the unseen parts of ourselves, and connecting thoughts with feelings can help make sense of our internal world. I emphasize the connection between thoughts, emotions, and physical experiences to strengthen one’s mind-body connection and promote a deeper healing. I utilize an integrative blend of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic mindfulness to uncover patterns to connect to the present moment.

Life can feel heavy, whether it’s big feelings, messy relationships, or just trying to hold it all together. I work with people figuring out who they are and how they fit in the world. That might mean struggling with emotions, navigating relationships, managing stress, or facing anxiety, depression, grief, or burnout. Maybe you’re exploring your sexuality, living as part of the LGBTQ+ community, or in an open or non-monogamous relationship and need a space to just be, without judgment or explanation. As a queer therapist, I’m here to hold space for all of it.

I am a licensed master social worker and received my training at New York University and NYC H+H Bellevue Hospital. I am currently providing trauma-informed psychotherapy to adolescents and adults, both in-person and remotely. Our lives are full of unexpected changes and transitions, some surprising and some planned. Accepting and adapting to change can be challenging and it often strains our relationships and impacts our lives in unexpected ways. If you find that you are having difficulty working through life changes, moving beyond a past trauma, or coping with day-to-day stress, you are not alone.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 10167?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
