In our work together, we form a safe, trusting relationship where you can share experiences, resolve challenges, and learn to approach life with more confidence, humor, and joy. I have been treating clients for over twenty years, from many different cultures, countries, and backgrounds. My style is best described as respectful, sincere, and empathic. I completed my Ph.D. in clinical psychology, have a specialty in couples, family, and bereavement therapy, and have post-doctoral training in psychoanalysis at New York University.

I believe in drawing from a wide range of approaches and theories, but always grounded in psychodynamic understanding, focusing on what is best suited to each person in their own therapy. I know that a trusting relationship must be the foundation of any therapeutic process if it is to be productive, and this is the kind of environment I try to create for all of my clients. I am engaged and interactive, and I work with a wide range of clients with varying backgrounds and issues.

I work with people who are curious about their own lives and are interested in knowing themselves better, often in the hope of increasing self-esteem and gaining more control over the choices they make. The work of therapy can be invaluable in findng new ways of living and relating especially when anxiety and fear cut off possibilities and keep a person feeling stuck. While I don't believe in cookie cutter approaches to therapy, I find than many clients benefit from challenging negative self-talk, learning to listen to their bodies, and investigating unwanted patterns that persist in their lives. I've trauma training including EMDR.

Healing begins here. I Can Help You Experience Life Differently. Do you feel anxious, depressed, and out of balance in your life and your relationships? Maybe there's a nagging, overwhelming unease that won't go away and you sometimes feel swallowed up by it. How would your life be different if you spoke to a safe, non-judgmental, experienced, therapist? I meet people where they are and work with adults treating a variety of needs. Through deep listening, compassion and understanding, we'll explore what's upsetting you and create a plan on what to do about it. Our crisis points are also our turning points.

Creative practices can often be a safer and more direct way of expressing, experiencing and understanding the most challenging emotions. I'm a creative arts therapist who has been working in clinical settings in the NYC area for over five years. I integrate my experience as a performer in Jazz, improvised and World music as well as my zen practice of over ten years into a unique and effective approach to therapy. Using both verbal psychotherapy and creative art mediums in a safe and supportive environment I work to guide the therapeutic process towards achieving a client's unique goals.

I believe that we all possess the innate ability to heal, grow, and connect. Doing so in isolation, however, is impossible. Therapy offers us a space to give expression to unprocessed emotion in a validating environment. Being human on this earth is an incredibly rich and varied experience, and I’m committed to learning about what it feels like to be you in this world.

If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, burnout, and increased reliance on substances to cope with uncertainty and confusion, you aren't alone. The Covid pandemic took the world by surprise and left us feeling unsafe and uncertain. Ever since, it's been crisis after crisis from climate change, deep-seated political divisions, and the threat of violence in our city and on a global scale. Talking about what's difficult to articulate is therapeutic. If you find yourself without the anchor of personal values and purpose, life can feel adrift and unmoored. I am here to help you make sense of it.

At different times in our lives we need different things. In a crisis, we may look for support and guidance. In times of relative calm, we might be curious about how to change a long-standing pattern of being. We may be looking for ways to manage anxiety or depression, improve relationships, find a direction, heal trauma or grieve a loss. Sometimes we know what we need, and many times we can’t quite figure out what's wrong. Generally, we come to therapy to feel better. Therapy can be a place to do that. Si busca ayuda en una crisis, un cambio en manera de ser, o alivio de problemas relacionales, ansiedad, o depression, lo/a invito.

As a therapist I work collaboratively to further existing strengths and overcome difficulties that cause people to seek help. Changes in relationships and careers, personal losses and new beginnings, help with long-term recovery, and maintaining emotional balance are some of the issues that benefit from psychotherapy. I seek to provide an atmosphere of attentive listening, safe expression of thoughts and feelings, and gentle suggestions to initiate change. I work well with young and mature adults, graduate students, parents, artists and creative professionals, and anyone who seeks to integrate insight with action to generate change.

Welcome! I am a deeply passionate and relatable therapist who helps women navigating perfectionism, people-pleasing, mother-daughter relationships, or body image struggles. For as long as you can remember you’ve been a natural caretaker or sensitive soul. You have always been the go to person when someone in your life needed help, or advice, but lately you feel a bit resentful, self-critical, and depleted. You want to show up with more ease and energy in your relationships but you are feeling guilty and struggling where to begin. It’s your turn, to give the care you so freely give to others, back to yourself.

Many of us learn that naming and communicating our emotions, needs, and desires is unimportant or even unsafe. We turn to coping in ways that keep us disconnected from others and ourselves, like people pleasing, overthinking, and numbing out. Do you feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, wondering where to start? For couples, are you desperate to stop having the same repetitive fights? If any of this resonates with you, I'm glad you're here and commend you for taking the first step.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
