On the outside, you're the one who has it all together. You're reliable, high-achieving, and successful, but the internal pressure to be "perfect" is becoming unsustainable. Lately, your mind won't shut off, and the "to-do" lists are starting to feel like a weight you can't carry alone. You're exhausted from the constant performance and ready to actually feel okay again.

People say "you are too sensitive" when you share how you feel. Your family and heritage are important to you but there is tension. Whether it's your partner, child, friend, co-worker, you want to improve your relationships. You feel restless and at other times stiff and numb. You don't like how you replay conversations and the thoughts land in you feeling negatively about yourself. At times, you may feel physical pain in your body...perhaps due to a medical condition or unexplained reasons. The worries and low moods are frustrating. You deserve a confidential and safe place to work through these thoughts and feelings.

My ideal client is one that is open to change. A client that, even if they see no way through, they trust that I am there to do all I can to help them, not just to listen, watch the clock, and end a session, but to be invested in their transformation from start to finish. My ideal client is one who is comfortable, even if not at first, celebrating themselves and not being fearful about trying again. Things aren't always successful on our first try, but my ideal client will understand this, embrace the lesson in each situation, and be willing to use what they've learned to try again.

I don't know that I could choose my ideal client. I have worked with both individuals and families. In this field, you do not have the luxury of choosing who you would like to work with or who is your " ideal" client. I just began working with children, and I have been enjoying every second of it. Every single person who comes through the door or logs on for their sessions through telehealth, keep an open mind, be open to suggestions, and view everything as a learning experience that will further your career and expand on your knowledge.

I use an integrative and collaborative psychotherapeutic approach, working to nurture the relationship between my clients and myself, with curiosity, warmth, and humor. Some people like to resolve specific issues quickly. Others prefer a slower pace and an emphasis on safety and trust. Still others are eager for in-depth, insight-oriented therapy, delving into the past, searching for new meaning and ways of being. Whatever the intensity and focus, I seek to help people find ways to help lead fuller richer lives, alleviate distress, deal with life's challenges, and improve relationships.

I have always liked the metaphor that therapy is like riding in the car with someone. You are the one behind the wheel, deciding where and how fast we go and I am the one with the map helping you to get there. I believe in forming collaborative relationships with the people I work with. I strive to help you understand yourself better so that you can make meaningful change in your life. My goal is to help you form strategies and ways of thinking that can be translated from the therapy room to every day life - to work, school. relationships, and within yourself.

There are times in life when we encounter pressures and difficulties that not only challenge our ability to cope and adapt in healthy and effective ways, but that also leave us feeling out of touch with, and/or out of alignment with our truest, most authentic selves. Our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and well-being can often suffer as a result. As a licensed clinical psychologist that specializes in treating issues related to physical health (e.g., chronic pain, weight loss) and spirituality, I am deeply passionate about providing evidenced-based psychotherapy that respects and honors the whole person.

No one’s mental health is amazing all the time. Most people encounter periods of difficulty, change and transition; whether it be family/relationship, social/work issues, or complications as a result of substance abuse. These issues do not have to keep you from living your best life. I believe therapy provides options for change and personal growth in a safe, nonjudgemental environment. Through empathy, supportive listening, and a partnership of learning, I will help you to understand and overcome your emotional struggles, develop positive coping skills, achieve greater emotional stability, and develop self-esteem and self-respect.

Clients seek therapy for various reasons; however, there are struggles I have more experience in treating. The age between 18 and 30 is a pivotal time in a person's life as they discover who they are. This age group undergoes depression, anxiety, the processing of childhood and current trauma, and self-esteem struggles. Clients this age typically undergo a life transition involving family, education, beliefs, the onset of various diagnoses, and finances. My treatment includes a lot of self-discovery, emotion regulation, and boundary setting to help clients process the past, cope with the present, and be hopeful for the future.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
