Choosing a therapist can be a daunting task. I work toward providing an atmosphere of respect, support, trust and caring which can lead to a greater potential for self understanding, healing, relief and the opportunity to see and make different choices. In private practice for 20 years, I have a varied practice, working with individuals, couples and families with a wide range of difficulties. Areas of particular specialty include working withindividuals who have experienced trauma, relational difficulties, eating disorders, anxiety, depression and issues of adolescence.

Ideal clients come from diverse backgrounds but share a common desire for mental and emotional well-being. They may be dealing with challenges such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress management, or relationship issues. These individuals seek clarity, balance, and tools to manage their daily lives effectively. Their goals include gaining greater self-awareness, building resilience, and improving relationships—whether personal, family, or professional. They’re motivated by a strong desire to better understand themselves and achieve a meaningful change that brings peace and satisfaction to their lives.

Children and adolescents have always been my main focus. They are often incredibly honest and once you get the heart of their behaviors it usually makes a lot of sense. The most common issues I've treated include: trauma / abuse, depression, anxiety, family conflict, substance abusing family members, co-dependency, mood disorders, self-injury, PTSD, self-medicating behaviors, acting out behaviors. Including the family is critical when working with children and adolescents. Therefore, family systems theory guides my interventions accordingly. There may be many factors that cause the problem, but the family is always a necessary element in the solution.

Despite our many differences, we all face challenges that can put the brakes on life, and share a common goal to be the best version of ourselves. Whether you're working two jobs to keep the lights on; going through a rough patch in your relationship; or just need to vent, we could all use someone to talk to and get a different perspective on life. Take a chance; give change a shot and call me for an initial meeting to take the first step towards getting your life back on track. No pressure, no judgment. What do you have to lose? I'm licensed to practice in NJ & CT; accepting in-person clients in NJ only; telehealth in both.

With summer around the corner, consider taking time for yourself to reset. Or maybe your family and children need a safe space to process life changes and transitions. How we respond emotionally and physically can be challenging and often quite confusing. Add a busy daily schedule; sports, work, errands, and do you even have time for a date night or to socialize with friends and family? What you, or your child, may need is a life raft: a moment to pause, reset, and regain balance.

It can feel overwhelming to find the right support for yourself, your child and for your family, but you do not have to find the right support alone. I believe one of the bravest things any person can do is work towards understanding their own story or work next to their child and have them understand their own story. Being a parent comes with its sets of challenges at every developmental stage. I use a compassionate approach while using humor to balance the heavier topics we will discuss.

You may be thoughtful, self-aware, and motivated — yet still feel stuck. A lot of the people I work with are quietly running on empty, not because they aren't trying, but because they've spent years on autopilot or else engaging in patterns that don't fully work. Consistent connection feels hard, risky, or just out of reach. The same cycles happen again and again and part of you wonders if you're somehow the problem. You're tired. Not just physically, tired in a deeper way. Many clients come to me after years of trying to “figure it out” on their own or in therapies that weren’t the right fit.

Hello my name is Tamara Siegel. I believe it is important to nurture your mental health. Empowerment through Self Psychological Counseling, LLC provides counseling to children, adolescents and adults. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), fostering strategies for self-realization. In this way counseling becomes an assisting process, rather than dependency association. I strive for the client to find their own way, but at the same time I recognize when direction, guidance, and information are needed. The therapeutic relationship that I develop with the client is our foundation from which to build.

Together we can confront the issues getting in the way of your serenity. I enjoy working with tweens, adolescents, adults, and families. I believe that ethical and trustworthy relational treatment is a cornerstone to the therapeutic relationship. Finding strengths within ourselves can be a daunting task, however, very possible. I use a psychodynamic approach tailored to your specific needs - change is possible and likely sustainable.

I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. My clients include professionals under pressure, veterans adjusting to civilian life, men working through emotional disconnection, and anyone feeling stuck in patterns that aren't serving them anymore. My approach is direct, warm, and collaborative. I draw from CBT, CPT, narrative therapy, and trauma-informed care, but I adapt to fit you, not the other way around. Therapy should feel like a real conversation. I help you get clear on what's happening, why, and what to do about it.
