I am a psychotherapist/researcher/ neuroscientist who studies how emotions influence our physical and emotional wellbeing. My book" Why Good Sex Matters" (Houghton, Mifflin, Harcourt, 1/2020) explores how imbalances in the wiring of the core emotional systems can disrupt our capacity for pleasure and joy--(contributing to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and general stress)--and outlines tool to rebalance the body/mind. My clients are seeking insights, tools, and skills to empower their capacity to have deeply joyful and satisfying lives. I work with them to co-create a multifaceted approach to fit their unique needs.

Most of my clients have a substance use disorder that is co-occurring with other conditions. These disorders manifest as severe behavioral issues that lead to biopsychosocial impairments. Some clients had problems with the criminal justice system, state and local agencies, schools, employers, family, and the community due to undesirable behavior. They need help turning their lives around. As Person-centered, solution-focused Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselor, I establish therapeutic relationships anchored in cultural diversity to provide individualized treatment to help my clients make the change they desire.

I have been a psychologist for more than 35 years, specializing in autistic spectrum disorders working from school age though adulthood, and with couples who are struggling with spectrum related marital and parenting issues. I also treat behavior disorders, separation and divorce, school adjustment and refusal, social skills problems, and family relationships. As a former teacher, supervisor, program director, clinical director and as a psychologist, I have enthusiastically worked with children my entire life.
