There are times in our lives when we don't know what is wrong; just that something is. We wonder if we are "crazy" and are scared to be judged if we ask for help. The truth is that very sane people struggle when the difficulties in their lives outpace their coping skills. I've been a therapist for 18 years and believe strongly that healing comes through connection with others. As we increase our knowledge, we become healthier and more resilient when approaching future problems. It is an honor to work alongside people as they discover hidden strengths and resources.

Choosing a therapist can be a difficult process. It is important to find someone that you feel comfortable with and can confide in, and that the therapist you choose is skilled and experienced. Over the years I have enjoyed working with individuals, couples, and college age adults. This includes adults suffering from mood disorders, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, PTSD, couples going through difficult times, separation, and divorce. A major part of my practice has been my work with women to address issues of self esteem, depression, and anxiety.

The life you had is gone. You've lost someone or something that was important to you. Whether through a death, betrayal, the loss of a relationship or lifestyle, you are forever changed. You are not sure how to move forward. In addition to feeling overwhelmed by sadness and/or guilt, you may be anxious about your future, what it will look like, and the steps you need to take.

I treat children and adolescents with various struggles, though I have a special focus on anxiety and selective mutism. Therapy with me may involve working through play, parenting strategies, or sometimes direct intervention in the school setting. With older children or adolescents, we may look at self-awareness, coping strategies, and social skills. Being that some forms of anxiety become apparent as early as preschool, I also work with very young children and teach parents how to support them. When appropriate, I offer intensive treatment for selective mutism, which allows progress to be made more quickly.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is the heart of meaningful change. Feeling seen, understood, and emotionally safe lays the foundation for deeper awareness and growth. Therapy is a space for honest exploration, a place to notice the quieter truths that shape our lives. People come for many reasons: anxiety, repeating painful patterns, confusion about love or loss, moments of crisis, or a sense of disconnection. I’ve worked with children, adolescents, and adults across outpatient, IOP, PHP, and community-based settings, supporting high-risk and dual-diagnosis clients.

There's no time like today to start making changes. Although I have specialized training in perinatal mental health, in general I enjoy working with individuals through various life transitions. Whether it be entering adulthood, struggling with relationships, transitions after a marriage or as children go through various developmental stages; I support clients in building on their strengths and accessing supports and resources in their community and environment. Through exploration of childhood experiences, attachment, love language, and life traumas, I help clients learn about themselves, set and achieve goals.

Telehealth and in-person in Route 10 Simsbury office location. For many, the "golden" years(later middle-age through end of life)are a time full of welcomed change and reflection. Still, medical conditions, relationship changes, and new life circumstances are just a few of the many stressors leaving seniors and caregivers feeling overwhelmed. I have counseled seniors living with dementia, as well as depression and anxiety. I have coached caregivers who find themselves balancing work responsibilities with care needs of children and aging parents.

Have you ever wondered if therapy could be helpful for you or your child? I offer a complimentary phone consultation to discuss any questions you may have. You can talk to me about anything—nothing you share will shock or surprise me. I help children and adults become their own therapists by learning techniques and coping strategies to work through life’s challenges. I work well with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, social issues, OCD, learning difficulties, ADHD, and body image concerns. Clients often experience a reduction in symptoms and improved well-being early on in therapy.

I take an integrative, holistic approach to mental health because I believe true healing happens when we treat the whole person — mind and body working together. Change doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when we actively do the work, and I’m here to support and challenge you through that process. One thing you’ll often hear me say is: "Nothing changes unless something changes." I primarily work with young adults and adults, helping clients navigate anxiety, trauma, stress, identity shifts, and personal growth.

I believe that therapy can be effective in helping those that suffer from addiction. I have worked in in detox, outpatient and residential treatment. I retired as the Director of Farrell Treatment Center in July of 2023, to concentrate on my private practice. Addiction does not exist in a vacuum. Recognizing and treating other problems, trauma, anxiety and depression, and the relationship between those problems and addiction, is necessary for successful treatment. I am extensively trained in trauma therapies, including Accelerated Resolution Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I use individual and group therapy.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
