Certified Sensorimotor, Internal Family Systems Psychotherapist, offering Clinical Supervision, Consultation, and Psychotherapy. The development of a gentle curiosity of one's internal experience becomes the basis for compassion and authentic expression. This contemplative relationship with oneself can then expand, with clarity and grace, the way in which we connect and relate to others. Therapeutic style is interactive, while encouraging the client's inner consciousness to guide the process at a safe pace. Use of somatic and strength based models that view individuals as having an innate propensity toward growth and health.

I am a licensed doctoral-level psychologist in practice for more than 25 years, working and living in four different countries, including the U.S., China, Jamaica and Botswana. I have had experience in private practice, medical settings and schools, treating the mental health issues of populations with diverse cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, and languages. Have you been so overwhelmed you can't seem to find the energy to move? Are you too anxious to take the next step, or are you frustrated that you are getting upset over trivial things? Do your interactions with other people bring new struggles and pain? It's not ridiculous that you are responding to life’s challenges in a particular way. You are not a bad parent or partner. You are dealing with situations that have become a roadblock to your happiness. Deep down, we are meant to be happy, and too much daily stress can drain us of contentment and joy.

Working from an integrative, collaborative orientation, I support clients in translating insight into action to make positive changes in their lives and relationships.

For me and my work there aren't many things more powerful and influential than a genuine human connection, a respectful relationship, and a safe space for exploration. I believe the root source of any change comes from feeling secure in these very areas. My hope is that I can provide these basic foundations with my clients. I strive to create a space in which there is respect, humor, no judgement, and an openness to learn. I find that in this space people are able to tackle a range of issues, strengthen skills, and positive growth takes place.

I believe we all possess a natural wisdom and an ability to heal, and at times we need support in getting in touch with those abilities. I work with clients to facilitate a deeper awareness into challenges and strengths, in an individualized way. I work with adults, adolescents, children, and families with particular interests in trauma/PTSD, substance use, family relationships, parenting and a variety of other concerns. I use a holistic approach to therapy informed by strengths-based, person-centered, expressive arts, and narrative techniques.

Making positive changes in life can feel overwhelming but can be easier with the support of a counselor. I am an experienced clinician and I have assisted people through some incredibly difficult periods. My goal is to help you create a healthy and enjoyable life by identifying and developing your strengths and supports, enhance your ability to emotionally manage life's ups and downs, improve relationships with loved ones, and enhance your self-esteem. Due to the Covid pandemic I am strictly doing remote sessions by either phone or video. This has been a significant change to my work but I have come to enjoy distance counseling.

I offer confidential psychotherapy working with individuals to help alleviate suffering, process trauma, work through relational discord, and navigate life transitions. This is possible through a collaboration of dialogue between therapist and client, in which we work together to find clarity, process emotions, explore past experiences, and discuss relational patterns. When given the opportunity to bring these themes forward in a trusting space, one can find a deeper connection to self and others.

I wish to serve as a guide for my clients on their own journey towards self-discovery. I am practicing humanistic psychology and my primary focus is to create an empathetic, non-judgmental, and safe therapeutic relationship. By using person-centered counseling, I am able to help my clients discover their authentic selves. I wish to help reduce anxiety and aid my clients in developing a positive self-image for themselves. I am interested in learning and understanding my clients’ self-perceptions and view of their own reality. My belief is that our worth is conditioned by others and this often can be detrimental to our mental health.

Please check back in May for openings. Hi there! I see you, you came online to find a therapist, even though it gives you some nerves. You aren't sure what you are looking for, but you are ready to try to feel better and take steps to make it happen. Maybe you've experienced trauma in the past or you're always feeling stressed. Maybe you are feeling motivated to learn new ways to cope with tough situations, or need an outside person to bear witness to the really tough feelings you've been having. After all, the pandemic has caused us all to max out our coping abilities, and now you find it hard to do your best alone.

I use an integrative approach to therapy; person centered, trauma informed, strength based, and culturally sensitive. I believe that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by many factors; genetics, biology, psychology, society, community, family, relationships, education, occupation, religion, and culture. I work with clients to help them gain an understanding of how their early relationships with others affect their current relationships through trauma-informed, CBT, attachment theory work. I am primarily interested in Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavior, and Motivational Therapies.

At its core, counseling is the development of a therapeutic relationship where people can process life’s challenges and develop a deeper self understanding. As a therapist, it is my goal to create a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental space for this to occur. I am here to help you with strained relationships, identity development, depression, anxiety, existential angst, trauma, and more.

My approach is engaged, empathic, curious, and deeply human. I strive to create a space that is warm, collaborative, and open. In this space we can explore your challenges, strengths, goals, and lived experience. The therapeutic relationship can help us understand harmful patterns then use new found insights and skills to heal. By navigating these patterns in a supportive space you can feel capable of making positive change.

I believe each of us is a unique work of art in progress. Therapy is a process of discovering how your deepest self wants to be expressed in the world and then finding the inner resources to live that out. During darker periods of life, we might question the meaning of things, feel flawed or broken, and long for what’s out of reach. These times can signify a loss of connection to our innermost selves and be a call to a new way of living. Our work together will explore pains and patterns that continue to show themselves, family and social systems that shape self-concept, and inner workings of personality that make you who you are.

How can I find a therapist in 05451?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
