Joey specializes in sexual health for couples and individuals, an area she became more interested in midway through her career, when the limitation in sexual health competence in the field of general mental health work, especially for couples, troubled her. She thus decided to pursue training and hone her skills. It soon became a passion and a calling, and she has turned her focus since in understanding the various intersections of sexuality with culture, race, religion, gender, disability, age, and of course, sexual orientation. She respects and draws from both the traditional and the contemporary clinical models in her work.
She utilizes a blend of Psychodynamic work, Behavioral approaches, and various Systems and Attachment models. Her clinical toolbox is strongly influenced by Yoga and Mindfulness techniques for trauma healing and distress tolerance.
While she assists and supports clients in problem solving through life’s unique and ever present challenges, she knows the choices in life are often confusing and there is plenty of room to make mistakes and learn from them.
