I am continually amazed by the authentic human-to-human interaction that therapy embodies. I do not believe that I know more than anyone else; rather I believe therapy is a joint effort. I will help guide the process, but together we will create a therapeutic process that fits your unique needs and strengths. It is an empowering feeling to be a part of your own path of changing.

I provide primarily in-person psychotherapy at my office in Teele Square, Somerville. I use a combination of psychodynamic, family, and CBT paradigms in my work. Oftentimes, therapeutic work makes room for a newly coherent sense of past and future; body and mind; self and others. Sometimes, less poetically, it can be all about reviewing the day-to-day to get the grime out of the gears and get moving again.

Effective therapy creates meaningful, lasting, joyful change. As your therapist I can help you resolve the inner and outer conflicts that create pain and exhaustion. Life brings unchosen experiences. Sometimes we feel hurt, scared, or deeply alone. Sometimes what happens seems too big to manage. For 25+ years I have had the privilege of helping people learn to live as their "best self," able to manage their moods, thoughts and situations with compassion and skill, to make changes to reach their goals, and to find happiness. I have also had the honor of helping couples and families move from hurtful interactions to healthy loving relationships.

Whether predicted or unexpected, change can be some of the most difficult territory to navigate alone. Getting to the other side of a life transition tends to include addressing fears, grieving losses, and exploring and integrating new identities. In my practice, I provide a caring, non-judgmental place for clients to understand themselves better, process difficult feelings, change painful habits, and build a more satisfying life. Together we will figure out what it is you need in order to regain your balance and sense of freedom.

*Accepting new clients* My work aims to help individuals develop a deeper connection with themselves and how they relate to the world around them. Together, we will cultivate a greater sense of self-awareness to drive positive change in your life. I tend to focus on identifying maladaptive patterns in thoughts and coping strategies, understanding where these patterns stem from and what maintains them, and exploring more sustainable, affirming approaches. Often times this means examining attachments and ruptures in early development to consider how they continue to present in day-to-day life.

We all have our own unique stressors. Finding ways to connect, harness our creativity, or find resilience can be challenging during these times. I have over 15 years of experience collaborating with folks who are navigating anxiety, depression, loneliness, and grief. These factors often manifest as barriers to the relationships we want, to fulfilling work, and to reaching our goals and dreams. I use a down-to-earth, person-centered approach informed by extensive training in modalities that help to examine or shift behaviors and patterns. We are all human and can't do it alone, so please take the first step and reach out.

Welcome! I’m happy you’ve taken that first step and found your way here. I understand it’s not easy to seek out support. Therapy is unique to each person, but some themes I have noticed people are seeking out are an understanding of their emotions, an improved ability to cope and function and feeling more empowered about their individual situations. I also have an interest in and offer years of expertise supporting individuals around issues related to parenting, identity development, LBGTQIA+ identities and life transitions.

Welcome! In today's world, we are constantly consuming information about different ways to achieve wellness. My goal is to help young women navigate the overwhelming pressures of always feeling like what we are doing is never enough. I aim to foster curiosity and empower clients to discover what makes them feel their best. We often get stuck in old thought and behavioral patterns that no longer serve us without even realizing how they are holding us back. I hope to challenge clients to identify these patterns and support them in implementing new, more productive behaviors to enhance their ability to cope and heal.

As a clinician, my hope is to help clients by empowering and guiding them as they face unique challenges. I strive to provide a safe, accepting space to share and identify those things in life that often make us feel stuck. I truly believe in the power of human connection and that anyone can make meaningful change when provided with the support and tools to do so. In this life, there is struggle and there is joy, often at the same time. Honoring both is an important part of understanding ourselves and how we can create a pathway forward. It is amazing to witness clients as they grow and evolve during the therapeutic process.

I believe in the power of talking and the therapeutic relationship to help my clients better understand their inner worlds and cope with the complicated realities of life. Together, we strive to draw meaningful connections that can ultimately lead to personal fulfillment and successful relationships. My work is informed by psychodynamic concepts — exploring how the unconscious and early experiences may impact one's emotions and relationship dynamics. I emphasize collaboration and open dialogue about our process together, and use a social justice lens to acknowledge the ways in which the socio-political context impacts experience.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Somerville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
